Meet Amirah Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amirah Johnson.

Amirah Johnson
Amirah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2015, while I was still living in Texas, I auditioned for Talent Scout Nikki Pederson and was accepted into her program. In the Nikki Pederson Talent program, I worked with different casting directors and acting coaches from Los Angeles for ten months, who helped put together a showcase that the group would perform in LA. After performing in the showcase in 2016, I was offered representation and signed with both an agent and a manager. I then moved to LA with my family later that year at the age of nine and have been pursuing my acting career since then.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This journey has definitely not been a smooth road. This industry is filled with many disappointments. Over these past seven years, there has been a lot of “no’s” and several “so close” opportunities. Recently, the writer’s and actor’s strikes have put a stop to things involving the industry, which has been tough because no one in the industry is working right now.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work and what sets you apart from others?
As an actress, I love dramatic material which can be seen through my most notable role as the dynamic character of Xan Galvez throughout Season 9 of Showtime’s “Shameless”.

I am very proud of my recent work in of role Ava in ABC’s new series “High Potential”. I am also proud of my work in the highly-awarded short film “How Not to be a Junkie” where I played complicated teen Katie. In both roles, I was able to showcase my range as a dramatic actress.
I think that my hard work, drive and resilience set me apart from others. I am also very focused on what I want out of my acting career.

What are your plans for the future?
After there is a fair agreement reached for the both writers and the actors, I am looking forward to filming the first season of ABC’s “High Potential”.
