Today we’d like to introduce you to Amir Shawn Kohan.
Amir Shawn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a young boy, I always looked up to the pharmacist as the gatekeeper of medical care. There were several instances when I visited my local mom-and-pop pharmacy with my grandmother. The pharmacist carefully explained medications to grandmother, going through each and every medication in an easy way she could understand. The compassion in his eyes as he went through her medication profile really spoke to me. After leaving the pharmacy, my grandmother expressed how thankful she was for the pharmacist and his detailed instructions. I saw how many people the pharmacist was able to help in such a short period of time. These experiences ignited my passion for becoming a pharmacist and opening my own pharmacy, where I can provide one-on-one care to my patients.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Opening my own business was definitely not always easy. I experienced a lot of challenges along the way. There were times where I had to sacrifice a lot from my personal life to make things work. However, I always have a sense of fulfillment when I see my patients’ smile when they receive the proper care that they need. This reminds me of why I embarked on this journey.
We’d love to hear more about your business.

Who else deserves credit – have you had mentors, supporters, cheerleaders, advocates, clients or teammates that have played a big role in your success or the success of the business? If so – who are they and what role did they plan / how did they help.
I have had several mentors, supporters and advocates who have played a big role in my success. My family was always supportive of me starting my own business. My undergraduate political theory professor played a pivotal role in my life as he taught me a different approach to looking at problems, solutions and the different outlooks various people have regarding the same situation. Lastly, my patients have been my biggest cheerleaders and supporters. Their appreciation and kindness have always been the driving force of my success.
