Hi Amir, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I became an aspiring Ophthalmologist after seeing a visually impaired family member in my childhood. Since then, I became interested in medicine and more specifically, eyes and vision. I knew Ophthalmology was my calling. As I faced obstacles in my professional journey, I would keep coming back to my memories of spending time with this person and how him (and his family) had to make a lot of modifications in their life to live with blindness.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I understood that the journey of an immigrant in United States with aspirations to become an eye surgeon would have its challenges. From predictable obstacles, like learning a new language or living far from family, to unpredictable ones, such as navigating the work-life balance in my career, getting to where I am today has been equally rewarding and challenging.

I am a partner at a multi-location ophthalmic practice in Southern California called Coastal Vision. We specialize in eye surgeries such as laser vision correction (LASIK, PRK, SMILE) and lens-based surgeries such as cataract surgery, custom lens replacement, and the Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) for vision correction.
