Meet Amerah Simone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amerah Simone.

Amerah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I decided to start my business back in 2017 when I was going to this 2000’s party. I didn’t know what I was going to wear and 6 hours before the party, I went downtown and bought fabric to make me an outfit. Then 4 hours before the party I made a pink fur bra top, headband, and hooded fur coat to give a Cam’Ron inspired look. I wore it to the party and felt like a celebrity, everybody loved my outfit and was taking pictures of me & asking where I got it. So I decided to finally open my business since I had something everybody wanted especially because Halloween was coming up and people wanted to be Cam’Ron, Lil Kim, Cruella Devil, etc. I was selling fur coats because people wanted them for Halloween, another 2000s party, or just because it was cold. Moreover, summer 2018 came around which is around my birthday and I decided to try and make bikinis, I came out with three colors, had a promo shoot for it and people actually loved the sparkly colors I had, so every couple months I added a new color & now I have 14 colors out and different styles. So I guess you can say I’ve turned into a swim brand since I’ve been doing swim for two going on three years now.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a smooth road up until late last year in 2019 because I start getting a higher demand for swimwear and encountered more and more rude and impatient customers. I also am a workaholic and I tend to overwork myself so I have suffered health-wise because I stress ALOT, and I’m so hard on myself. Also, not having things made already has put me in a tuff spot because I have bad hands so I can’t cut fabric out for a very long time because my hands start to hurt. I have to take a break for a couple of hours which will hold me back for the work day. If I had bikinis already made I feel like that would take 90% of what I stress about on a daily away.

Alright – so let’s talk business.  What else should we know about you and your career so far?
My main brand is “Amerah Simone” and I have two sub-brands under that name which is my Fashion Design Business “ViViD By Amerah Simone” and my Photography Business “Flutter By Amerah Simone”. ViViD is known for fur coats because that’s what I started with, and bikinis because that’s what I’ve been going with. My bikinis got really popular because they were featured in a couple of celebrities music videos such as Summer Walker, Chris Brown, Lil Uzi, & G Perico. My brand is different from a couple of other swim companies for a few reasons such as: I sell the top and bottom together, you can mix and match sizes, & they are very affordable for a whole bikini set.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be when my mom had me and my lil sisters birthday party together. My birthday is July 29th and my lil sisters is July 6th, so my mom had a big party at one of the family houses & we had two jumpers, cotton candy machine, shave ice, face painting, anything you can prolly think of was at that party. We had a lot of family there all different ages, we had multiple cakes. Anything I think about it, I wanna go watch it, it was recorded on an old school camcorder and we can watch it anytime we want on VHS.
