Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia DeMilo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Amelia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Throughout my childhood, I had multiple surgeries addressing the detrimental effects of a bone cyst in my arm. As a result, I was pulled out of all physical activities as a kid. I always loved singing before I could even walk, but having these surgeries encouraged me to go primarily down an artistic path. Music and theatre become one of my greatest escapes. It later turned into one of my biggest passions in life, and something I strive to get better at each day.
I am currently promoting my new project, Drama Drama, a coming-of-age teen musical dramedy. I play Stella, a modern-day hippie that accidentally becomes part of a hit girl band!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Looking back when I was in my early teens, I struggled a lot with my body confidence. My childhood surgeries left me with scars on my arm that used to make me feel insecure. But now, I flaunt them like tattoos that tell a story. Even though feeling confident is always a work in progress, I’ve learned to love my imperfections.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a singer, songwriter, and actress. I specialize in having a full-spectrum understanding of singing, ranging from operatic cross-over music to Broadway to pop. I love singing different genres, as my soul connects to many different forms of music. I am the proudest of my passion for what I do. Once I am working on something, I go full out. I love every detail and piece of meaning involved with creating performances and stories, whether it be through my singing voice and acting or my writing.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is not defined by the superficial. It is not about the money, fame, or the number of Instagram followers you have. It’s how you treat people and how sincere you are. How passionately you show up to do your job. It’s how you fight to wake up in the morning and show up even if you are going through the hardest times. It’s your perseverance and personal character along the way that dictate success to me.
