Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Kitayama
Hi Amber, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started Creamii Art when I was 14 .. 15ish. “technically”It wasn’t called that back then. It was just my art and ideas. I already knew what I wanted to do in life but wasn’t really sure on how the journey was going to play out. I was planning my goals, and brainstorming for my brand all in highschool but it wasn’t easy and none of this came until I had a breakdown and got diagnosed with anxiety and depression, which made things for lack of better words challenging. Despite feeling exhausted, lost and out of my mind. It felt that I harnessed that chaos and created something magical. During this period is when I also started to have really vivid dreams which I started writing down and eventually turned it into my art which is what you see today.
Slowly after figuring out my brand around the age of 23 I really started to emerge into the art world. Doing little things here and there then about 5 years ago I started to take myself seriously. Finally showing my Art in galleries and vending at Conventions! Art is definitely a process.
In addition to my artistic endeavors, I thrive on bringing people together! I enjoy organizing vibrant shows and fun fundraisers that unite our community and spark awareness for important causes, all while infusing my art into the mix to create positive ripples of change. But beyond my art career, I can think of no other way to spend my time than to be with my family; playing video games, hiking, cosplaying, going to open mics, you know the usual. Overall,Motherhood has transformed my life in the most astonishing ways. I find immense joy in raising my son and exploring the wonders of the world with him—even when the world throws us some tough moments.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth road? Not by any means. I’m a biracial woman in the art world. Unfortunately, some people do not take you as serious as your counterparts. That’s just the reality. It doesn’t make it right but as I navigated through the world in general I found that sometimes people just need to be educated.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Most people know my work for vibrant colors, ethereal worlds and my usage of junk to create textures & 3D Effects. My art tells me story, and journey of discovery.
With Creamii Art each piece emerges from the distant planets scattered across the galaxies of the Creamii Art Universe. As the captain of this celestial vessel, I dispatch my crew to voyage through the depths of imagination, gathering the hidden truths and vibrant inspirations waiting to be explored.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I really just like to listen to music while I create. Usually music with minimal to no lyrics, alot of drum, bass and melodic melodies. If I’m not listening to music I actually enjoy watching let’s play of horror games. I’m a huge gamer but sometimes I don’t have time to play if I am working a lot.
