Meet Amber Amos of Westside Taco in Whittier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Amos.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Amber. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Westside Taco Company was born out a love for street food and the need to share something we couldn’t seem to find up to par. People kept asking us where we go to get the best tacos, so we decided to make them. We took the leap and when we announced we were open, we were booked 6 weeks in advance. Four months later, our carnitas taco took 2nd place in the people’s choice category of Tacolandia in LA. The rest is taco history.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never easy starting a business. We had a simple formula: Out. Hustle. Everyone. We took everything that came out way, pounded more pavement, worked more hours and got in front of more faces. One of the problems we ran into was growing too fast. We took on more than we should have and it made it difficult to keep up, maintain control and balance everyday life. We have an amazing crew of people who care as much as we do, so teamwork and a solid work ethic has gotten us through.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Westside Taco Co. – what should we know?
We do craft tacos, among other nods to regional street food. From the salsas to the tortillas, start to finish, every single thing we do is handmade… outside of the cheeses we use. We cut zero corners and pour our hearts and souls into bringing the best damn taco on the market. We stand behind it. Our handmade tortillas, funky flavor profiles and unrivaled customer service is what sets us apart. Our root beer braised carnitas taco with mango pineapple salsa has been referred to as the best taco on planet Earth. We are most proud of our team, our ability to change people’s day one taco at a time and the fact that we all get to do what we love and share something we care so very much about.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We out work everyone else. We work harder. We go harder. We give a lot to charity. We feed a lot of people for free. We stay true to who we are and every bit of our business is referral based. It’s a beautiful thing.
