Today we’d like to introduce you to Manny Guerrero.
Manny, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in East L.A and was there for 20 years. It’s a great place to grow up, it keeps you humble. It got rough at times but I wouldn’t say we were “poor” cause my sister & I had a little more than others but there definitely was a struggle just like everyone else in the neighborhood.
I moved to Palmdale (which is 50-60 min northeast of Los Angeles) when I was 20 to be with a girlfriend who became the mother of my 4-year-old son & been here ever since.
Has it been a smooth road?
Like I said, growing up in East Los Angeles there’s definitely always struggle.
First of all, I was blessed to have both of my parents. A lot of kids I knew didn’t so I first have to be thankful for that. My parents didn’t always see eye to eye so it got tough at times for me & my sister but my parents always made sure we had what we needed & good holidays.
Of course, there’s a big gang scene in East Los Angeles but I never went that route. I did experience enough with drinking & partying at a young age but later learned that wasn’t the life for me.
What is the most difficult part of what you do?
Since I work a normal “9-5” it gets tough being consistent with Photography. I also am a father so it can get tough and very tiring going out street shooting or putting out an advertisement. So I would say being consistent is very difficult.
How do you define success?
When I was younger I thought having a lot of money was being successful(which we all want) but as you grow older & wiser, you learn what really defines success and I believe that’s hard work & always growing. Whether it’s always striving for a better job, being a better parent/partner,purchasing your own home,as long as you’re able to provide & support your loved ones;you are a successful human being.
Learning from mistakes & correcting them with actions & staying loyal to your goals will make you become a successful person.
What are your plans for the future?
First off,I’m always looking for a better paying job. So that would be a first. I put off photography for a year & I’m now trying to get back into it deeper than I was before. I’m building my credit score so I can hopefully purchase my own home within the next couple years. I have a four-year-old son & would love to have a couple more kids. Basically just grow as a human being.
