Today we’d like to introduce you to Amani Boyd
Hi Amani, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a love for the arts which has allowed me to discover different careers that I wouldn’t have learned about otherwise, such as acting and fashion design. My first introduction to the industry was when I was signed to Ford Models as a baby, after getting scouted at the grocery store! However, my first real acting job came from a family friend who submitted me for an audition when I was eight. I didn’t really know what to expect at first, but I really enjoyed the experience, and now I get to bring the character of Mariah to life on Carl Weber’s “The Family Business,” which I’m very grateful for. I have also taken a few acting classes along the way which has helped me to develop my skills and confidence, as well as make a lot of friends. When I’m not acting, I love to sew, crochet or research anything that has to do with fashion, so much so, that I started a fashion club at my school. Recently, I’ve been encouraged to sell my pieces and to make custom pieces for others. So, I’ve been preparing for that.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been the smoothest road. I struggle the most with discipline. Pure motivation can only take you so far, but discipline is what truly pushes me to stay consistent. sometimes I don’t feel like studying my lines or setting up my camera, even though I know these things will benefit me in the future. What I’ve learned is that I need to set goals for myself and truly focus on what I want to achieve. If I don’t feel like doing something in the moment that’s ok, but in the meantime I can work on something else and come back to it. Surrounding myself with people who care and support me as well as people with similar goals as has given me the strength to keep going and achieve my dreams. I want my audience to not only know me as a great actress, but also by my designs, so I try to showcase my work using the platform that I have.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an actress, my job is to bring a character to life and tell a story. I need to understand the context in which the character is in and how they are feeling. My personal experiences are what shape my performances, which is what makes every actor’s performances so unique and meaningful. I love that I can add my own style to my designs and my performances. The crochet sun hat that I made uses colors that I love to wear and the dress that I’m currently working on is for my birthday! I like that I can add bows and ruffles to it and little details to make it special to me.
