Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Young.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Amanda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started out as a nutrition coach for women in New York City, but what became clear really quickly was that there was something deeper going on beneath the surface of the food and dietary issues for most woman I saw. The women who were walking through my doors actually had a spiritual malnutrition more than anything else, and it wasn’t just any kind of spirituality that they were malnourished in. It was a feminine based spiritual practice that was the key to unlocking their well being.
Most women I worked with already had some sort of spiritual practice such as yoga and meditation but these practices come through a male lineage and inherently have a masculine bias. The issues that women were struggling around had to do with their disconnect to their feminine body and soul. I had been on my own spiritual journey of many years which included going deep on the yogic path, as well as studying Buddhism, Shamanism, and Taoism, as well as studying with highly lauded meditation teachers.
While all of these practices had been very beneficial for me, I kept feeling a call from my wild feminine heart that there was something more wanting to come through, a way that spirit wanted to work with me through the feminine. I’ve always had a rebellious spirit and went deep inside myself to find what was true for me. Not what I was told by all the teachers and the lineages, but what was true for me as a young woman in 21st c America. Through the support of some integral books, and a deepening of my practice, a portal to the divine feminine began to open. Actually in truth, I had had a relationship to the Goddess from a young age when I had several near death experiences, and profound dreams and awakenings. This portal reopened, and a lot of teachings and wisdom came through. I began to interweave this wisdom through my coaching with women and began to teach weekend workshops, and retreats focused on awakening women’s power through connecting to the archetypes of the Goddess. I created a signature course and journey with the archetypes which I have been teaching since 2012, and I brought this to LA in 2015. I now teach retreats, do private coaching, and lead online courses for women in the LA area.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Ha. I don’t think this kind of path is ever completely smooth . One of my biggest struggles in the early days was that I was an open channel and a lot of downloads, and transmissions were pouring through me but my system would get overwhelmed with all of the energy, and I didn’t know how to integrate it, and direct it into something solid and concrete.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Urban Goddess – what should we know?
With my company Urban Goddess I do private coaching, lead in person retreats, and teach online courses empowering women by helping them to embody their three feminine powers based on Goddess archetypes. I am the only organization I know of that works specifically with these three universal archetype and has a specific methodology and process to guide women through the embodiment. The three archetypes are your Sensual, Powerful, and Soulful energies. I also refer to them as your inner Sensual Goddess, Warrior Goddess, and Compassionate Goddess When women go through this process of embodiment of these energies, their lives radically transform for the better. Sometimes I am still blown away by how massive the shift can be. Even though I’ve been teaching this for years and have seen the transformations, I am still somehow surprised each time by what takes place.
I’m excited to announce that in September I am going to launch a monthly gathering for women on the west side of LA.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I definitely feel so grateful for the support I have had around me which has been integral to the success of Urban Goddess. First and foremost my dear friend and business mentor Suparna Bhasin deserves credit for her support of UG. In the early days, she was the one who helped me translate all my inspiration and spiritual downloads into a structure, mentored me on how to promote my business, and she even helped me get funding for the business at an important moment of transition. She is forever a part of Urban Goddess and connected to the mission.
I am also deeply grateful for the sisterhood of support I have found in LA with other female leaders and conscious business owners. I was invited into a circle of women soon after I arrived here by my friends Tabby and Eva. Being a part of that circle was a real lifeline for me in many ways.
And I, of course, have to acknowledge my mother. She is at the heart of Urban Goddess. I am forever grateful for how she raised me, how she always supported me in being different, in stepping out, and in taking risks. She has quite literally saved my life on two occasions when I was a child and had near death experiences. Beyond that she has saved my life in more metaphorical ways time and time again as I have been on the risky ride of entrepreneurialism.
