Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Cushman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Amanda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started in the food business over thirty years ago in NYC as a caterer and have lived and worked all over the country.
I presently teach cooking classes privately in homes in LA, NY, NC and FL.
I am focused on healthy, global dishes and specialize in clean, simple food.
I teach groups of all sizes from two to twenty.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, there have been challenges.
When I relocated, it is a rough road to get started and I often take temporary positions to get me through the first two years.
In LA, I taught at a private school for kids and worked with other caterers as their chef to get started and get my name out there. I also wrote a column on food for the SMDP so people would start to know my name.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Simple Real Food story. Tell us more about the business.
I am known for clean, global menus that are simple to replicate and delicious.
I am proud that as a one woman show for over thirty years my business continues to grow and expand.
Next year, I will add culinary trips to Italy to my business.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Not much, I believe you make your luck.
