Today we’d like to introduce you to Almy Leonsantos.
Almy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I came to this country from El Salvador. I didn’t speak any English so I got a job in a Mexican restaurant. I’ve always been passionate about fashion and dreamed of having my own store. After 10 years in the restaurant business, I decided to go for my dream. I had a lot of difficulties and setbacks in the beginning. I started out selling women’s regular sizes and did well. But one day I just had that gut feeling that I needed to dress plus size women so I created Thick Women’s Fashion after having been in business for about two years. I want our plus size women to feel great about their figure and really help them look amazing. It makes me so happy to make women look great, especially our thick women. That’s my mission with my store.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The beginning was definitely not smooth. It was a lot of trial and error and I had to learn to predict what people liked. I really had to learn everything, I never had a business before. It’s still for sure a lot of work but I really love what I do.
Thick Women’s Fashion – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m an immigrant woman business owner. I specialize in plus size women. I really care about customer service and making women feel great in my store. I’m also known for bringing in trendy clothes for plus size women of all ages. We know what’s good for each type of body so women can just come in and we will make them look amazing.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is when you love what you do, when work isn’t work but it’s a pleasure. Success is when you’re so blessed that you can bless others. I have all that, so I consider myself successful.
