Meet Stunning Makeup Artist: Norma Vazquez

Today we’d like to introduce you to the ever so gorgeous Norma Vazquez.

Norma , please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up I was a total tomboy – at a young age, I fell in love with sports, thanks to my dad. He was the biggest reason I feel I was/am such a tomboy, he dressed me in Nike t-shirts, Levi’s and sneakers. I was never really into what other girls my age where – I hated dressed and dolls, I would cry when my mom would force me to wear them ( I have photos of me crying ). It wasn’t until my senior year of high school that I started to really think about my look – what to wear, how I would wear it , my hairstyles and finally MAKEUP. 2006 was when I first began to dabble into makeup, I bought my first MAC compact and Lancome bronzer – it changed my life. Seriously, applying just a bit of compact and some bronzer made me feel so confident. At this time I wasn’t allowed to apply any eyeliner, mascara or shadow – dad rules. Once I graduated and moved on to college he wasn’t there to tell me no so I began experimenting with different brands, styles and looks. In 2010, my boyfriend pushed me to pursue my career professional.

After some time I finally went to a makeup school which was totally unnecessary because I paid over 3k and there is no better school than practice. To anyone who wants to become an artist my best advice is practice, practice, practice! on anyone you can get your hands on. I started with friends and family! After I finished school, I began to showcase my work online – via Instagram, Facebook, and twitter. I created business cards and just got to talking to photographers, videographers and anyone who would be in need of a makeup artist. I was blessed because my boyfriend is a musician and he is/was always in need of a makeup artist for photo shoots and videos! Years later I’m still doing makeup, and I love it. I love the happiness it brings to women on their special days and the way it has helped me become more comfortable and confident. As well as all the people I’ve met along the way! I hope I’ve inspired people along my journey and continue to do so!

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing ever goes as planned. Life somehow always manages to “happen” but you must continue to keep pushing. Nothing in this world comes without hard work and sacrifice. My advice doesn’t sweat the small stuff. Stay focused, positive and driven!

Tell us about your childhood, what were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a total tomboy. I was in sports all year round; soccer, softball, volleyball, and track. I’ve always loved dancing and very much into music! Those are the 3 things that had all my attention as I was growing up. Music, Sports & Dance.

Is there a specific memory from when you were younger that you really miss?
My favorite childhood memory has to be the day my Pomona City Softball team came back from a 2-1 game and won two games straight beating out the team who had beat us twice. Winning that tournament, we moved on the little league championships in Montana. The last game we were tied and going into the 10th inning be we’re up by 1, defending on the field, two outs and bases loaded. The girl at bat was their best hitter yet… Fist pitch, foul ball, second pitch ball, third pitch, smacked deep into center field (I was playing that position) I turned left started sprinting as fast as I could dove, and just hoped I’d caught this ball. I looked into my glove and there it was, we WON!!! My entire team jumped over me and we were heading to Montana the next morning!!!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans are to be happy!! To provide a healthy and balanced life for my little one. To forever be my boyfriends number 1 fan… Life is too short to be anything but happy regardless of the situation. I want to keep creating art and inspire people. Anything is possible if you just try.
