Meet Alixandria Taylor of Hairy Little Things

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alixandria Taylor.

Passionate and dedicated to her craft, Alix has over 8 years of experience, establishing herself as a go-to beauty Expert. Alix’s work can be seen on the red carpet, in magazines and on TV. She’s had the opportunity of working with Teddi Mellencamp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Joanna Krupa, Paris Hilton, Robin Roberts, Natalie Alyn Lind, Whitney Port and Katharine McPhee to name a few.

Alix studied at Paul Mitchell, SF where she obtained her Esthetics license. After growing her beauty business in SF, she moved to New York and linked up with the Founders of GLAMSQUAD where she quickly became one of their lead artists. With this success, she was approached to spearhead the Los Angeles Beauty Development Division for the company and built a team of sixty professionally trained makeup artists in less than 2 years.

A desire to expand her knowledge of beauty, skincare, makeup, and of course eyebrows led her to an accreditation for Microblading. Her clientele expanded overnight with customers traveling from all parts to benefit from Alix’s signature brow artistry, taking her career to the next level.

With her beauty knowledge, education, business experience, and connections in the beauty industry, Alix chose the Arts District in Los Angeles, to follow her heart and launch her new salon, Hairy Little Things. Here she is creating a go-to-hub for unparalleled all things hair for the beauty industry. Her salon offers a range of services from microblading, makeup, lash extensions and full-service hair care.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road when it came to pursuing the path of my passion.

There were many times where I almost quit and gave up because I let that little voice in the back of my head tell me that I wasn’t good enough, strong enough, brave enough, old enough, etc. Although I have faced many obstacles throughout my journey, there are two in particular that really stand out above the rest.

The first and probably most pivotal obstacle would be the guilt of deciding to drop out of college and pursue a career in beauty. I’m sure my whole family probably thought I was insane but it was my dad that really got to me, he had always engrained the belief that attending a 4-year college was the only way to succeed in life. This was a big let down for him being his first child who had completely gone rogue. It took a long time for him to accept my path but here we are 8 years later and I can happily say that I think he finally accepts my decision!

The second biggest obstacle was my “dry spell.” I lived in NYC at the time and I was only 21, maybe 22. I moved to NYC to assist a makeup artist and something happened on a big photo shoot set that I actually got kicked off the set for. It was complete B.S. and really had nothing to do with me but needless to say the makeup artist that I was assisting stopped giving me work because of this situation. This was a blow to my ego and made me completely re-think if I was pursuing the right profession.

It didn’t sit well with me that it is such a cliquey industry and the whole thing just felt very “Mean Girls” to me. This had me thinking I wasn’t good enough to succeed and I probably didn’t work for almost 7 months! Luckily for me, I had a mentor at the time who always told me to keep going and I listened! If I could give advice to a younger me, it would be to be strong, be fearless and keep your eye on the prize!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hairy Little Things – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Here at Hairy Little Things, we are obsessed with creating! All of my artists who work here are all incredibly talented and we aim to not only create the best brows, hair and lashes but to inspire each other and our clients.

We are a little out of the ordinary, hence the name but we want everyone to feel comfortable and let them know that it’s ok to not fit the typical mold. That it is OK to be fun and goofy AND to be sexy and bossy all at the same time!

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
My proudest moment of my career so far has been listening to and acting on my inner happiness. Although I loved Glamsquad and everything that it taught me, at the end of that road I just wasn’t happy, fulfilled or excited. I took a moment and really dug deep.

I decided to leave my stable salary job with full health care benefits which as a makeup artist is hard to come by. I jumped! I jumped and decided to 100% go out on my own and start a business. That was a little over two years ago now and it was the best and most fulfilling thing I have ever done. You have to risk it to get the biscuit!
