Meet Alina Jeon of La Ti Da Music in Manhattan Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alina Jeon.

Alina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After teaching in a classroom for years, I realized that I wanted to get on a more personal level with my students and families. Every student has a different way of grasping ideas. Every student has their own story. Music Learning is so much about relationships on so many different levels, whether it’s with a particular instrument, a certain sound, a classmate, or a teacher. My curiosity led me to ask questions, to get to know these students on a deeper level, and this understanding helped me to develop strategic plans to cater to the individual interests and needs. Music is about expression, and there is nothing more gratifying than watching students create whatever it is they want to create.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Time management was definitely an obstacle at the beginning of starting my business. Between teaching, commuting, emailing, there wasn’t a lot of time for me to soak in all that LA has to offer! I’ve been working on my self-care with some small but effective steps like unplugging for a couple hours in the evening (which was hard, but really was great after getting used to it!), and getting myself to the beach as much as I can.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about La Ti Da Music – what should we know?
La Ti Da Music is about people. I focus on student-centered learning and relationship building in order to understand what interests and drives the student musically. Having a relationship with the parents is also a huge factor as I get to involve them in the learning process and discuss how to best support their musical journey at home. My goal is to customize every student’s music learning process so that they are able to create the music that they love.
