Meet Alif Vannah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alif Vannah.

Hi Alif, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I was always an athlete. I played football in high school and then continued to try and chase that dream a bit after until I realized things weren’t working out so well. Music was always been apart of my interest when I was young, I believe I got it from my mom, she used to sing live back in her days so she would sing all day long while she cooked or cleaned so as a kid, it was like nothing but melodies all day long. Back then though, I feel I never pursued singing or rapping because I was always insecure about my voice. I had a high-pitched voice for a very long time and my friends would joke about it so it was just never in my mind to even attempt to rap or sing. But it was until my football career was over which I was about 22 and at the time, I had some friends that were already making music so it was already inspiring to know someone who’s actually doing it and it led me to try it out for my self. After I made my first song, all my friends loved it and were excited about it and I got joy out of it. It was like throwing a touchdown again. So that just drove me all the way up to this point and it still drives me to this day. It’s definitely what keeps me going, to see people genuinely enjoy the music.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a struggle for sure. I think with music in general, it’s not easy to find someone who’s mind is in sync with yours. You might have an amazing producer by you that’s going for a specific sound while you’re looking for a whole different one, it just wouldn’t work. I think what makes it so hard for me is that I don’t have that LA-based sound that everybody around me is doing and I’m very picky when it comes to beats so it makes it even worse. But that’s the beauty of it. When you’ve put the time in and finally get the results you’ve been searching and grinding for, the struggle makes it even better.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I make music. I would say I specialize in hooks. I’m definitely known for having melodies. I don’t really just rap so melodies play a big role in my music. I’m definitely most proud of my growth. In four years, I think I’ve done alright as far as find my sound and perfecting it. It’s always more room to grow but I’m happy with how far I’ve come. I would say my sound is what sets me apart from others. I don’t really know anybody with my sound and of course, my race I guess.

Can you talk about how you think about risk?
I’d say I’m a risk-taker but it depends on the circumstance. It’s so many scams nowadays even from industry people they’ll take your money and not even help you. So I gotta always be cautious with the risks that I’m taking. I don’t think I’ve taken a big risk yet with music besides a financial risk. I don’t want to use him as an excuse but having three years old son who’s with you daily, it makes it hard to do certain things. But I got plans on taking my sound somewhere else where it may fit more in the future just don’t know where exactly yet.
