Alicia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My family and I had the war on lice about 6 years ago. We used all of the over the counter products available to try and rid ourselves of the horrible little bugs. All of the products from the store promised to be 100% effective but not one of them worked. I kept thinking I was doing something wrong because they said they would work. We dealt with the problem for about a month until I finally did some research online. The over the counter chemical products are no longer effective. The lice are now “super lice” and have built up an immunity to the chemicals. So what is a family to do? The at home remedies don’t work either i.e. olive oil, mayonnaise, Listerine, Cetaphil lotion. We felt like we were never going to get rid of the lice. It wasn’t until we had researched thoroughly that we came upon the natural solution to removing the lice. It isn’t easy or fast. It would have been so much easier had the over counter chemicals worked and just killed the lice like it promised but that was not to be, sadly. It used to work for our parents and grandparents but no longer are we able to take the easy way out. Now what must be done is a thorough combing of the hair. Someone with knowledge and experience must do it. It is not easy and not something you can learn in a week. It takes hours of practice, even years. Every single egg must be removed or the infestation of lice will return. If even 2 eggs (nits) are left behind it will return. I have learned this through painful experience but now I can take that knowledge and help other families. It is actually much more affordable and easy to do it the right way first instead of spending hours trying to do it yourself the wrong way and using products that don’t work. You have to find the most experienced lice removal specialist to do the job right!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always rough times when you are running your own business. I am the only person running my business and going out to help these families with lice. I want them to get the best service possible so I cannot risk sending out someone else who is inexperienced. Some people do not want to wait for me to be done with another family and so they call someone else. This is the toughest problem I face. Not having enough of myself to go around. I always hope they can find someone good to help them but time and again people have called me back later after having used another service. It’s unfortunate but it’s always the same story -that the other service did not get rid of lice as they should have. That is a waste of the family’s time and money. I wish I had two or three of me so I could be everywhere all the time. Most clients want you there right now when they call and that can be so tough if I am already booked and they don’t want to wait for me. This is the hardest thing to deal with. I totally understand their panic but lice removal has to be done correctly! Even if you have to wait a few hours or even until the next day for the most experienced person to help you.
Otherwise it can take months to be rid of the lice instead of doing it right the first time.

My business completely eradicates lice from families’ heads who have a difficult time doing it on their own. Or for families who don’t want to waste time with ineffective treatments and want it done right. I go to the families’ homes and remove the lice in a safe, clean environment. We usually set up either in a bathroom. kitchen, living room or outdoors.
Wherever the family is most comfortable. The children usually watch an iPad or TV and we have fun talking. I guide the parents step by step as to how to clean the house of lice while I am cleaning out the lice from their hair. I try to make the horrible experience as enjoyable and stress free as possible. Most parents enjoy my company even if they don’t like to see me very often. I do everything humanly possible to make a terrible louse infested experience better and to of course get rid of the lice! After 6 years of going around LA and the Valley and South Bay I feel like I have almost been in every home. I have the experience necessary to do the job right the first time. My experience is what sets me apart. A lot the lice salons have high turnover rates with their employees. Surprisingly enough a lot of people don’t like to do lice removal. So they have to re-train new employees all the time. They might know all of the right things to say and tell you all about lice but if they can’t comb the lice out because they don’t have the experience then it is a waste of time. It is a skill that takes time and patience and most importantly experience. I have all of those things and I am ready to help anyone who is dealing with lice. I have been in these families’ shoes and I feel like I am getting my revenge on the lice. One head at a time!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I will always be around to help families get rid of their lice. I plan on doing it now and in the future. I would love to find some experienced lice specialists to hire but I don’t know that will be happening anytime soon. If I do hire anyone I will be very picky and they will have to go through rigorous training before I can let them do it on their own. I plan on continuing what I am doing.
