Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Hale.
Hi Alicia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up learning about painting and the arts from my incredibly talented grandmother. She taught and exposed me to so much that helped shaped my creative journey. I went to school for film and was really drawn to telling stories through visuals. I stepped away but found a way to return to the creative side and storytelling again with live event painting. I get to paint someone’s story live in front of all of their family and friends to watch the painting come together. It doubles as a form of entertainment for guests and a lasting art piece for the couple to keep that captures the feeling and memory of that special day. Weddings are the most popular event I do, but I live paint at birthdays, corporate events, or anything worth celebrating.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest challenge for me was finding my confidence to get started. I had been wanting to do something with painting for much of my life but didn’t think it was realistic. I also didn’t have the courage for a long time to put myself out there and take the leap. After years of practicing painting and getting comfortable with my painting style, receiving encouragement from my husband, and writing it as a yearly goal over and over again, I finally took the dive when I learned about live event painting. I started by painting at a friend’s wedding with no expectations. I enjoyed the rush of emotions and energy from painting live in front of people and knew I had to keep going and find a way to make this a reality.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Live Wedding & Event Painter with a vibrant and whimsical style. I paint a moment at weddings as it happens in front of guests during the entire event. I tend to exaggerate color and energy with brush strokes in an impressionist style to capture the feeling of the day with focus on the couple and emphasis on landscapes and venue details. I often combine different elements of the day to create a unique lasting art piece for the couple to keep forever. I love being able to add in pets, secret messages and items, and even loved ones who may not have been able to attend.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Being absolutely present with the painting, the people, and the environment. The high pressure and rushed nature of painting live at events has forced me to be extremely present in what I am painting and experiencing during these important life events. I get a chance to immerse myself and capture the scene on canvas. It has really made me reflect on my own life and how important it is to be present in everyday moments, not only the big ones. The importance of being present during each moment and the experiences you have in life with the people you love the most.
