Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali Chalabi.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ali. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The business was founded in the summer of 2004 with an objective to bake artisanal bread and pastries for the wholesale and retail market in Los Angeles. The founders felt a need to fill a vacuum in the bread market in LA for good all natural artisan bread made with love and passion. We opened our bakery in El Segundo and a retail shop on West Third Street, Los Angeles, followed by our main store in the Century City Westfield mall. We have since closed our retail locations and focus mainly on the wholesale market supplying the best freshly baked bread in LA to discerning chefs, high-end restaurants, cafes, hotels, markets, and catering companies. We have refocused our retail (direct to customers) endeavor to a growing numbers of Farmers market locations and online sales via amazonfresh. Our passion for bread has no boundary. We marry old world artisan recipes with American taste to make the best bread in LA.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a great experience overall. Our ever growing number of fans across the greater LA and all the way to Santa Barbara and San Diego fuel our determination to continue. Our main struggle was to keep up with the demand and to make sure that our team members continue to share the passion of the founders of the business.
The economic slowdown of 2008 – 2012 was a challenge. We had to trim down our Retail expansion and refocus on our core business.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with BREADBAR – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
at BREADBAR we are proud of our team members, many of whom have been with the company for over 7 years. We work as a team and share our passion to produce the best bread in LA. We are shy of publicity and stay away from advertising and social medias.
We have grown the business organically and our customers are our more fervant ambassadors. We are most honored when our customers refer us to their friends and colleagues.
We are a customer-centric company. We work with our customer to meet and exceed their expectations. Many customers start small with us and we work with them intimately to expand the relationship. We cater for their special needs by tailoring our bread to their particular demands.
What sets up apart in this crowded field today, is our determination and our passion. Our determination to be the best partner for our customers and our passion to always improve our product quality.
Artisan bread is a challenging product. Since it is all natural and hand crafted every single day, consistency is a major issue. It is this consistency and reliability that sets up a part. A lot of bakers can bake the most extraordinary bread, not many can do this day in and day out.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love Los Angeles, period. We love the diversity of the people, the diversity of cultures, the diversity of tastes that make this city what it is. We love the fact that LA has become a foodies paradise and destination. The city and its cultural landscape keep evolving and surprising us. This is where we started and this where we belong!
