Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Olerio.
Alexis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Back in 2005 I tripped over a chain in a parking lot that rendered my right arm useless for over 2yrs. After multiple surgeries and intense rehab, I fought to get myself back to who I was both mentally and physically. The doctors had told me that I would never get my arm back to where it was, so I ignored their negativity and persevered. I began to educate myself on how food and exercise can heal and strengthen the body. As I got deeper into health, fitness and overall wellness, I realized that I had quite a passion for it and I was good at it too! Before I knew it I was helping others get healthy and strong both mentally and physically and loving every second of it. Through the years, I have helped many people learn how to grow from their adversities, strive for the best version of themselves and to remember that anything is possible as long as you put the effort in. One of my mottos is my ABC’s to health fitness and wellness… Aspire, Believe & Conquer and my goal is to help as many people as I can to crush that motto! I am proof that you can overcome anything and that we are never given anything we can’t handle!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This road has been the hardest I’ve ever been on, but that’s the beauty in it. Everything “bad” that happens, only greatness and growth follow. I have learned so much and I use all of this to help others get through whatever it is that they are going through. I love helping your average person get healthy and be the best version of themselves, but I love the challenge of helping someone with pain disorders, disease, injuries etc. Health and fitness begin with the mind and that’s where I start with each individual. I have been through a lot myself and I share my personal experience with each client and then help them to understand that they are not alone, they can do this and that they are worth it! I would say that my biggest struggles have been the pain disorders that I have been left with from the trauma my body has been through…. some days it’s hard to motivate myself, never mind others. But again, I remind myself of my purpose to serve and help others and that I can handle this.
AOF Fitness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business name is a play on my name AOF Fitness. I help people become the best version of themselves through mind, body & soul. I am not just a fitness professional, but deal with holistic nutrition and supplements, living a positive lifestyle, healing injuries through SMR (self-myofascial techniques) and of course make the individual strong! I focus on strengthening your mind and core… the rest will follow. My style of training is low weight, high reps, calisthenics, fitness boxing, HIIT & Tabata. I am most proud of how far I have come as an individual and as a trainer. I grow all the time and so does my business. I started with one client and I just keep growing. Most of my clients are word of mouth, so I must be doing something right! I think that there are actually many things that set me apart from others, for starters is my background story and how I became a trainer. Then I really get into healthy eating and healthy thinking. My clients don’t just change physically, their lives change all around them! I have a huge passion for helping others and my clients can see it and feel it… I truly love what I do!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me means happiness. Am I fulfilled from my “job?” Do I like to wake up every morning and “go to work?” and do I feel like I am fulfilling my purpose in life and am I serving others? As I answer YES to all of these questions then I am happy and happiness equals success! Also, being able to run my business all on my own and to keep it going and be able to support myself, my family and a fun lifestyle to me also means success… to be comfortable with my career and to know I have a future in health and fitness.
