Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Jones Moore.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexis Jones. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Alexis Jones Moore. I was born & raised in New Orleans, LA, but I reside in Los Angeles, Ca. I am a Christian, Wife, Singer In girl group “The Magic Jones”, Actress, & business owner!
I started singing at the age of 4 years old in my church choir. There I honed my talents, work ethic, and ability to sing in front of large audiences. Elementary and High School were the foundation for my career. I was always in theater, musicals, and I was apart of a popular girl group with my sister. By 2002, our singing group “Elysian Fieldz” landed a huge record deal with Derrty Ent/ Universal, becoming the first girl group under rapper Nelly’s label. Unfortunately, there was a death in Nelly’s family which put a halt to all future endeavors.
With many setbacks, I chose to still pursue my career in music. In college, I did two major things that prepared me for today. I was an assistant manager at Sunglass Icon/Hut and I joined the Louisiana State University Gospel Choir. I always stayed in choir or any club pertaining to music & arts to make sure that I was always on top of the ever-changing music world.
After graduating from LSU, I took a leap of faith and moved to Atlanta. While in Atlanta, I was able to prove myself again, but this time in front of Writer & Director Tyler Perry. I was given 2 minutes to audition for him, and I sung my heart out. His exact words were after the audition was “Have you ever met Beyoncé? You remind me of her. You’ll meet her, don’t worry!” Well, needless to say, I got a call back from Tyler Perry Studios and I was booked for “A Madea’s Christmas” DVD recording. After filming the live DVD for Madea’s Christmas, I continued to work with Tyler Perry for two tours and four live DVD recordings.
My career and fan base grew tremendously over those years, which gave me the courage to take another leap of faith to move to Los Angeles, Ca. Now, here I am living in Los Angeles, performing with some of the greatest artists ever and running my own SUNGLASSES BUSINESS (managing Sunglass Hut in college taught me well!). Since moving here I have worked with Marc E Bassey, Bishop Briggs, Emi Secrest, GEazy, as well as have performed on James Corden multiple times with several artist.
I am currently still singing in a girl group with my sister under a new project “The Magic Jones”. The Magic Jones is geared towards producing great children’s music and content that will allow kids to dream, imagine, play, and learn!
Has it been a smooth road?
Throughout my entire journey, there was always curve balls and road bumps, but it was never anything that God couldn’t see me through.
In 2005, I experienced the worst times of my life. Being a New Orleans native, my family was heavily affected by Hurricane Katrina. A tornado hit our home and destroyed every childhood memory and dream we ever had. All the years of singing and the hard work instantly went down the drain. We found ourselves homeless and within four months of losing everything, my dad became so stressed in the efforts to rebuild that he had a sudden heart attack and died. One month later, my grandmother died one month after that my dad’s brother died. I dealt with ALOT of loss in 2005. I was failing miserably in college because I was so hurt, sad, depressed, angry, and confused. I was a homeless kid going to class every day trying to stay focused.
But then God sent a beam of hope and light. Later that year, God connected my family to the singing group Mary Mary. They immediately stepped in to help us with regaining our faith in God (we lost all faith after the storm) and brought so much joy back into our family. With the help that God sent from Tina, Teddy, Erica, & Warryn Campbell, we were able to step back out on faith.
In 2010, I graduated from college and received my Bachelors Degree in Writing & Performing Arts. I then was able to tour the world FOUR times doing what I loved the most, singing. I made it a serious point to never get that low in life again. When you get to your lowest point in life, you’ve got to hold on to your joy, peace, and faith in God. God is gonna go through each storm with you, but it’s up to YOU to get out of it!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Musician & Good $hade Sunglasses – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
So in 2009, my last two years in college I was the assistant manager at Sunglass Icon/Hut. While working there, my love for shades grew stronger. As soon as a customer would walk in the store, I was quickly able to pair the perfect sunglasses with the customer. It was like some weird extra gift God gave me. My sales were always through the roof because I was a master at seeing someone’s face structure & style, and showing them the perfect fit shades.
In February 2018, I launched my own sunglasses company called “Good $hade”.
As a musician first, my eye for showy/flashy shades was strong. I immediately would go to my vendor and pick the best shades on the market. My customers continue to shop frequently with me because they know EVERY pair of sunglasses on my site is going to dope. I won’t allow ONE wack pair on the site.
I take so much pride in my sunglasses because it’s the only biggest accessory you can wear on your face, and the first thing people will notice when they see you. What sets us apart from other sunglasses companies is we weed out the not-so-hot shades and provide great styles at affordable prices. I’ve been the broke college student who wanted to look fly but needed to budget. I’ve been the homeless girl with no money but still wanted to look good. I’ve been the working woman on tour, that wanted to look fly but still needed to budget to make sure all bills were paid. Our price points allow everyone to still look their best and feel the flyest!
I’m most proud of my company for turning $20 into a 5 figure home business. I run my online store from my home and within a year business grew. So many Celebrities have worn Good $hade from Ty Dolla $ign, Pretty Vee, Lil Mo, NFL players, & NBA players. Our shades have also been featured on Vh1, Revolt TV, NBC, and many more major networks. It gained so much Instagram attention that the business took off quickly. So I am so proud of how far I’ve come with the help from my models and workers.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love everything about LA. I’ve lived everywhere and this city by far has been the best. I love the weather, and I love the fact that you could be at home chilling one day and singing on a major network the next. The opportunities in this city is limitless, as long as you stay focused and stay out of trouble!
The only thing I like least about this city is WE NEED A MARDI GRAS HOLIDAY!
