Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexandra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My “story” begins before I was even born, but to make that long story short, it was inevitable that I become an artist. Born the youngest of six, with four very unique sisters and one lively brother, I was surrounded by influence and inspiration. My sisters were always deeply interested in art history, one sister would have me help her study her art history flashcards while the other would allow me to participate in her Chaffey art projects, then another sister would (have to) take me to her film appreciation classes at UCR, all this before I was even a teen. I remember doing my 4th-grade history project on Salvador Dali, the same year I wrote and directed two plays that my class performed at the end of the year. When I hit puberty and fell down the Jonas Bros. hole, my sister’s artist boyfriend at the time informed me on the “boy band hypnotism” I fell victim to and changed how I listened to music. My household consisted of being constantly artistically trained whether it was conscious or not. Now that I’m an adult, living in a work/live studio apartment with my artist partner, I find myself still joyfully surrounded by and guided by art.
Has it been a smooth road?
My road has been like a narrow trail in a deep forest where there are steep hills full of foggy, smokey atmosphere and parts I’ve climbed to reach misty air, parts where there were moss lumps comfortable enough for me to nap or space out.
Please tell us more about your art.
My partner and I do murals for a restaurant chain that is currently growing. We’ve done a few jobs for other companies as well and love whenever we get an opportunity to try something new or be free with design/concept. Check out our Instagram profile @shnyx_art.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
There is a lack of nature in my city… I hate how all the places closest to nature are super expensive and reserved for the rich.
