So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a third-generation tailor, I come from a long line of tailors and clothiers. My family has owned eight clothing stores and garment makers throughout the metro Detroit area and overseas, starting with my grandfather’s first business over 85 years ago.
My father had his own tailor shop, so I grew up immersed in the business and learned the ins and outs of running a shop as well as learning how to tailor. After taking over my fathers’ shop for almost a year, I realized the family business was in my blood, so I opened my own shop back in 2004 at the age of 24. Once I learned the dying trade of custom tailors, I knew it was time for me to keep the family trade alive. Fast forward 16 years, we have gotten to where we are today by carrying on family traits and creating a name based on quality, excellence, and expertise.
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting any type of business from scratch takes patience, dedication, and hard work. I would say one of my biggest struggles I faced in the beginning was being the “new ‘young’ guy in town” while there was an established men’s clothing store a block away. Of course, in any business there will be small bumps along the way but for the most part, we have been smooth sailing which we are incredibly grateful for. After building our reputation and our brand, I am proud to say that I am now the only men’s clothing store located in the downtown Northville area.

Alexanders Custom Clothiers is a shop that offers many different wardrobe options which include bespoke suits made in house, custom shirts, tailoring for men and women, and all clothing accessory needs. I would say we are most known for our custom garments; we were announced the number one custom shirt maker in the country in 2019. We are also recognized for the culture of our shop and the personable connections we have made over the years with our clients. We make sure to give our customers a satisfying experience from start to finish by getting to know each client, walking them through the process and truly understanding their wardrobe needs. I am most proud of my employees who add a positive energy and personable experience for our clients; my employees have helped our brand get to where it is today.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, we do feel that Los Angeles is a great place for a business like ours! There are many working men in the area who can benefit from our services, whether they dress up daily or need more of a casual business look. Although there are many clothing stores in the area, it’s our attention to detail, thoroughness, and personally having the skills of a bespoke tailor that separates us from the rest. We want the consumers in the city of LA to know that although we specialize in fine custom clothing, we also have a wide variety of options for a relaxed yet sophisticated look.
