Meet Alexa Amigon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Amigon.

Hi Alexa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up in the business of fashion and seeing how exciting and creative it was, I always knew that a brand of my own would be something that I’d work hard towards accomplishing. The idea for LAFOI is to not limit the creativity and design and to develop products that are not restricting what the brand can be, for example; LAFOI can be clothing, home accessories, beauty, footwear, or even a car. I want the possibilities to be endless. The overall design approach is always to make products that have meaning and correlate with everyday living. Like everything, it started as an idea and has been evolving into what it is today. At the moment, I’d say I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but with consistency I am seeing much change in the right direction.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
LAFOI has definitely not been a smooth road, I face multiple obstacles daily. I’ve had to work multiple jobs to afford projects at times and I’ve for sure had to cut back on design ideas in order to at least put out some type of product. Nothing has been easy or given. It’s all been hard work but that is how you grow and learn. If I had to give advise, it’s to not cut corners on that hard work. Take those obstacles and find a way. If you really want it, you will make it happen.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As the designer for LAFOI, I try not to limit myself to what I create. I like to focus on creating products that have a story and meaning. From the beginning, all of my drops have been designed that way. From basic logo drops with a color story to collabs with a message or drops that were inspired from how I was raised, it all has a story. I believe that is my specialty. Creating moments that make people feel something when they see it. I’m very detail-oriented which makes everything special and unique. It’s the little small details that take things to the next level and I focus on that.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Los Angeles as a whole is a melting pot for many industries. That’s what I love most about it. Here you can obtain many opportunities and accomplish a lot. It has the power to bring many walks of life together and make things happen. On the other end of that this city can be cruel and hard. That’s what I don’t like, if you are not on your P’s and Q’s it is easy to get exed out. You just have to always stay true and be solid.
