Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Shera.
Alex, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My move to Los Angeles in 2011 was prompted by a strong desire to immerse myself in the fashion and entertainment world while studying Visual Communications, where I earned my degree from Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. While completing my second year at FIDM, I was invited to intern with celebrity photographer, Alix MalkaI. He has worked with everyone in the fashion industry and I was very fortunate to call him my Mentor. My very first shoot with Alix was for VOGUE Russia featuring Chole Grace Moretz. Working for Alix opened up many doors and from there I had the opportunity to work with Elizabeth Stewart, assisting her for an award season. Elizabeth styles Hollywood’s A-list including Cate Blanchett, Julia Roberts and Jessica Chastain to name a few. My next job landed me with Johnny Wujek as we were introduced through friends and I was hired as a new assistant for his top client, Katy Perry. In addition, he was working on a campaign for David Lachappelle. Working for Johnny was always challenging and fast paced but really a great experience while learning to hustle in a double time! We collaborated on amazing projects like the Dark Horse video which won the VMA awards for best video of the year and the infamous last Kardashian Christmas card with the entire family before Bruce and Kris divorced, which David Lachappelle shot.
As my experience and credits grew, I started building my own clientele and eventually developed my own company, www.AlexanderShera.com with many credits for editorials, featuring Marshmallow, Boy Band IRL, Jack & Jack, Pia Mia, TYGA, Zara Larsson and other musical artists.
Working as a stylist and creative director is extremely hard work and takes many years to build a client base, but if you’re willing to put the time in and understand how to relate to your clients and earn their trust, this is a career that keeps getting better and better. My passion will always involve creativity in fashion, art and music but recently, I have been lucky enough to begin another chapter to my story. I am revisiting my love for music and have started to record in the studio with Producer and Pop-star Micky Skeel and Andy Kravitz who have worked with iconic artists including The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and Lana Del Rey. I consider myself very lucky to be living and working in the City of Angles.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always obstacles on the way to fulfilling your dreams. You just have to be determined, motived, and also trust that if you put in the work, you can do anything you set your mind too.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I have had the pleasure of being credited in VOUGE, ELLE, HARPER’S BAZZAR, GQ ITALIA and many other high-end fashion magazines. Client List includes Artist Marshmello, JACK & JACK, TYGA, Cody Simpson, Pia Mia, Model Meredith Mickelson, Actor’s Cameron Monaghan, Ben Barnes, and Josh Duhamel and Michelle Rodriguez to name a few.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up In San Diego. It was very much like the show the OC, which was huge at the time. I always had an interest in fashion and art. I love anything creative or out of the ordinary. I used to bring cameras anywhere I went and shot what I saw or dressed up my friends to take Editorial like pictures. I always was busy creating which has carried over into my life today.
