Meet Alex Salcedo of The Casual Boardwalk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Salcedo.

Alex, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Alex and I began blogging back in 2014. I was finishing my last year of school at Grand Canyon University (in Phoenix, AZ) and in my free time, I would take photos for my wife’s blog (Esmirna Tapia). I’ve always had this huge interests in clothing and fashion, so I decided to begin blogging my outfits and sharing them through Instagram.

In 2015, once I finished school, I packed up my belongings and moved to San Diego, CA. I met a photographer, Henry Young, and we would schedule a couple of shoots per month. I noticed my audience began to quickly grow as soon as I began sharing high-quality content through both my blog and Instagram, so I decided to invest more time into blogging by sharing OOTD’s every day and by sharing blog posts a couple times per week.

As my audience and engagement kept growing, I started receiving emails from brands to collaborate with them. I’ve had the honor to work with brands such as GQ, Jameson, American Eagle Outfitters, Urban Outfitters, Banana Republic, Nissan, Forever 21… to name a few.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like achieving a goal takes a lot of time, effort, dedication, and motivation. Once I began investing more time into blogging, I immediately noticed that the results were impressive; more brands were reaching out to work with me and I started to make a decent income through sponsored collaborations.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a smooth ride along this road; I am always pushing myself to come up with new ideas to share with my audience. Nowadays there is a large amount of bloggers/influencers, and you have to stay ahead of the game/competition by thinking outside the box.

Some think that being an influencer/blogger is easy and requires little work, when in reality you have to invest so much time into being a “creative director” for your shoots, organize outfits, reach out to brands, edit content, interact with your audience (via comments, videos, DM…); there’s so much that goes into blogging!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Casual Boardwalk – what should we know?
I am a blogger/influencer that specializes in menswear, lifestyle, and travel content. I’m proud to be known as a Mexican-American influencer from Southern California that keeps it real all the time!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
One thing that sets me apart from others is the fact that I choose to remain humble, and I use my platform to inspire others in any way possible. People want to get to know you, so I feel that being real, and being you really help others connect with you in many ways.
