Meet Alex Nguyen of Rex Contractors in Chinatown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Nguyen.

Alex, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was a kid, I remember I really love building pillow forts and lego houses. With each build, I remember my little houses got bigger and better and that brought me a lot of joy.

Then during my college days, I felt that joy was still in me and so I wanted to pursue a degree that is related to construction. I decided to go for structural engineering. My dream then was to be able to one day build my own house one day.

After I finished school, I applied to be an intern structural engineer at a construction business. Now, I run that business.

Has it been a smooth road?
It was not a smooth road. I went to school for engineering, but running a construction business was something much different. In the beginning, I was struggling a lot. I learned to take responsibility of every issue that happens. I feel this simple concept helped me learn and grow so much over the years.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rex Contractors – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
What I’m most proud of is my team. We have a small team of tightly knit people that care. And I prefer that than a big team that doesn’t have the same heart. With a team like what we have, that translates to good projects and happy clients.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Los Angeles. This is my home and I don’t imagine myself living anywhere else. I love how this city has a lot of opportunities and different cultures to appreciate. What I like the least about this city is the overcrowdedness and traffic.
