Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Bittner.
Alex, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a Physician Assistant for the last four years. If you are not aware, a PA provides services very similar to a doctor but practices alongside them instead of independently. I have full authority to evaluate, diagnose, treat, perform procedures and write prescriptions and I work very closely with my attending physician although he is not required to be physically present.
I started my career working in a very busy emergency room/trauma center but after almost three years, I just felt like I could make a larger impact. I am very passionate about providing high-level medical care and really taking care of people as whole individuals. This means spending more time with patients and developing strong relationships with them, which is not ideal in the eyes of hospital administrators and insurance companies.
I left traditional medicine and opened this hospitality medical practice in Los Angeles one year ago and it has given me a much greater sense of fulfillment. I am completely mobile and serve guest at many of the hotels in the city as well as private residents. With this, I am able to provide the level of care that I feel is most necessary and I have the freedom to do whatever is necessary to meet the needs of my patients. Providing a convenient service and truly being present my patients is extremely rewarding and the level of gratitude expressed by everyone I treat makes everything worthwhile. This is how medicine should be.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been smooth, but nothing meaningful ever is. The idea of a house call medical provider is not new to the Los Angeles area, especially in the hotel world. It takes time to develop relationships with people in business so they learn to trust you and that process cannot be rushed. Of course, there is competition but I do feel that success does not need to come from failure of someone else. That is, tearing others down to get ahead is never the right move. You have to believe you are the best in order to get there, and as far as I am concerned there is no better house call medical provider in the city and that passion is obvious in all of my interactions. Doing the right thing, and having good intentions, is always the right thing.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about AM-PM DOC Los Angeles – what should we know?
What sets us apart is the level of care that is provided. Being a convenient option for someone and associating as a luxury brand, you have to provide tremendous value up front and over deliver on what the needs of a client or patient are. AM-PM DOC has developed an incredible reputation in the hospitality, truly being in service of others. Time is so important and the more of it you save for someone else, the more valuable they will perceive your actions. This is why performing house calls is so rewarding. The gratitude someone expresses when you show up to evaluate them 30 minutes after they call, are prepared to treat them right in the room and have their prescription delivered an hour later, and then follow up every day after, is why I am really doing all this. Between being a full medical service equipped for any urgent care or primary care needs, offering IV Vitamin Therapy services and also revolutionary anti-aging treatments, there is plenty to be grateful for.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Dr. Ramsey Saffouri is my business partner and mentor. He has been doing this all successfully in Miami for the last 25 years and has given me the guidance to ensure success in Los Angeles. Being active in the business world while also practicing medicine is a venture I always aimed for but there are many things only experience can teach. He has helped me learn as quickly as possible and overcome many roadblocks and I am grateful to have a strong relationship with him.
