Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Toro.
Alejandro, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story begins back in Venezuela. I grew up there, I dabbled into the arts but never considered them as a career. Instead, I worked hard in the restaurant business as an underaged bartender and eventually supervisor. The beard helped me look older. In 2011 I moved to the US and that’s where this new adventure began. I thought if I can be anything I wanna be… What should that be? I decided on Voice Overs.
I quickly found success as a voice over actor dubbing cartoons, tv series, novels and more, I always felt that in me, I even remember booking my first ever audition back in Miami. After that, I found myself, I was beginning to see my success and decided to venture into commercial acting, things went well, so I thought “I guess I should try acting now” my father is a very committed actor too so it just made sense.
After finding success in both commercial acting and VO I took an extra step in auditioning to a Nickelodeon TV series, which I booked and went on to record 40 episodes for all Latin America. So, next step, Los Angeles.
As soon as I moved to Los Angeles I found my first “big break” while looking for gigs in Craigslist. A friend found it for me. Soon after, I was participating in Fox’s Master Chef with Gordon Ramsay. Cooking had always been an interest of mine but not one I thought I would share with the world. Master Chef served many purposes for me. My social media following grew thanks to the support of my country. I also had the chance to talk briefly about Venezuela and shine a light upon the difficulties we’re currently facing.
Since Master Chef I’ve refocused my career. I now create content, both in front and behind cameras, that relate to food, travel and community. I have two running shows on Amazon Prime and I’m working full throttle on my production company Toro Productions. I’ve even invested in a WATER business as I plan to continue branching out always with my three pillars in mind: FOOD, TRAVEL and COMMUNITY.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a smooth road, others might not feel the same though. I think it’s about perspective. I’ve heard people traumatized because they feel so away from home, living only a couple of hundred miles away from their hometown. I’ve also seen suffering and pain in scales I don’t wish on anyone, maybe on some people… jajaja (Exclusively speaking about those in power back home). But all in all, I understand how fortunate I am and act accordingly, thankful for my circumstances.
Though, I must say this past year, has been my year of most growth, as the struggles I’ve had to deal with have been internal, which I feel is always more challenging to overcome. Nevertheless, here I am, stronger and more motivated than ever.
Tell us more about your work.
I focus on FOOD, TRAVEL and COMMUNITY. If I must add something to that it would be CONTENT CREATING. Even though my main focus in on these three pillars, the vehicles I use to create this content are Videography and Photography.
I think I also forgot to mention I’m a freelance producer for companies like Tastemade and Buzzfeed. Which is something I never thought I’d aim for but I’m now so happy I do. Finally, given all these life experiences, jobs, ups and downs I’ve decided to now focus on my own company, Toro Productions.
Toro Productions is unique but it doesn’t stand alone. I plan to always support and shine a light on the things I believe deserve to be seen, no matter what the source is. Toro Productions is about helping the right people and companies communicate a message, the right message, a message that aligns with your brand, your purpose and most importantly our planet.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see Toro Productions generating content that causes minds to shift into the needs of our planet. I see myself joining many other creators that will help us portray in the most consumable way possible, ideas and projects that will inspire people to take a firm step towards a more harmonious world.
In five to ten years, we will be awarded by the industry, helping our content reach even further. We will have created a community of thousands of followers, researchers and active members who will continue to help us create content that matters. We will have allowed thousands to grow and become a part of our community.
