Meet Alan Alcantar of Auto Express Insurance Agency in Huntington Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alan Alcantar.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My father (Murrell Alcantar) was working for his best friend (Howard Cohen) in 1985 and Howard was killed in an auto accident on the freeway. The office was then sold to my father by Howard’s wife and renamed Multico Insurance in its original location in Covina. Business was booming and then the California insurance law passed to make auto insurance a law. Business went crazy and my dad opened another office with his best friend Vaugh Powell who was also a friend of Howard Cohen. They all worked together at Beneficial Finance in the 70’s. The new office is our HQ location at 202 S. Grand Ave. in Santa Ana. They then opened another 5 offices together as well as Vaughn having his own office (Insurance Masters) in L.A. on Wilshire.

Vaughn was driving to pick up his grandchildren on the 5 S going to San Clement and was rear ended by a driver and lost control of his car and flipped at a high rate of speed on the freeway and was ejected and killed instantly. The recession then hit and we closed all but 2 offices. I fell in an accident and almost died from bleeding in my head. After 6 surgeries, my skull off for 4 months after a craniectomy and reconstruction surgery and micropigmentation to cover scars, I’m back to 100% now. I took over and dad retired in 2015 and we are starting to get busy again and I’m planning to open another 2 offices in 2018. It’s been a long road the past 8 years but after 30 years in business and knowing amazing success, we are never giving up and we will be booming again soon with dozens of locations. I’m proud of my dad and this journey we’ve all been on.
