Meet Akshun Abhimanyu an Actor / Dancer and content creator in Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Akshun Abhimanyu.

Akshun, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Its been an exciting journey so far. My journey started in New Delhi, India. Growing up, I was fascinated by performing arts and film. I was constantly driven to perform on stage and was involved in various theatrical productions at my school and externally. I had been training as a dancer since I was 8 years old.

I was also very enthusiastic about the sciences and reasoning and that led my path to Bremen, Germany. I moved to Germany when I was 17 to pursue the education in Biotechnology at the Jacobs University. I was very keen on this decision and was motivated to become a researcher. However, I had this voice constantly in the back of my head that would tell me that I don’t belong in the ” research lab” and I should head back to the theater space/ dance room.

Hence, I decided to pursue my path of performing arts and got involved in Managing productions and being involved as a dancer on stage in Bremen Theater, Germany and Jacobs University. I spent long hours in the research lab and would spend the rest of my days rehearsing for my performances.

Cutting to 2014 – 15, I was about to graduate and I was confident that its time to make a decision for myself, hence upon completion of my Bachelors of Science in Biotechnology, I embarked on my artistic journey and moved out to Los Angeles, to pursue Acting and Dancing. I studied at the New York Film Academy and learned the art of filmmaking.

Since then I have got involved in award-winning productions that have been recognized globally. I was fortunate enough to work with various Artists and talented people to whom I looked up to. My journey so far has been thrilling and exciting and I am glad to have chosen this path.

Currently, I produce films and content that is driven by social issues and aims towards propagating betterment in society through the tools of entertainment and visual media.

Has it been a smooth road?
My journey has been like the fluctuations in bitcoin rate. I have always had a price to pay to reach for my goals and it has made me into a stronger individual with a constant zeal to achieve.

Growing up, the first initial choice of switching fields, was a very challenging decision. I belong to a modest family, my father is a Scientist and my mother is gynecologist (doctor). It was an independent decision to pursue a career in a field of entertainment and arts. I was filled with doubts and questions, however upon a moment of truth which involved “losing my grandfather and best friend in the same week, and I still chose to perform”. That moment gave me an understanding that I am passionate towards my craft and I have the blessings of my loved ones who shall guide me through this path.

It was a bigger challenge to arrive in Hollywood and realize that the presence of minorities in the industry is still a distant thought. I had to deceive myself and prevent any of these ill thoughts to take over my confidence as I would walk in the audition rooms. Slowly, I realized that if I am putting in the hours and effort, I will eventually get the results.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am currently working as an Actor/ Producer. I have been involved in creating content commercially and theatrically that are based on social issues. I have dealt with topics like ” racism, health disorders, mental health, sexual violence, domestic abuse and children health”. I specialize in playing catharsis characters that showcase the pain and issues faced by people in the society. I have been involved in developing storylines for writers and promoting visual empathy.

The distinct vision towards using film has helped me shape my vision as an artist and I am grateful to continue working on this path to showcase more meaningful stories.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles and Burbank is the heart of entertainment. People breathe, eat, dream and live entertainment. I am grateful to have had this opportunity to be able to call Los Angeles as my new home. It has helped me shape and become the person I am and have the vision to speak for myself. I feel confident about my decisions and the entertainment business is at its best to be found in Los Angeles.

Finding your path in this city is very important as it is a very beautiful sunny colorful city, people tend to get lost in the crowd. However, having a goal and target in this city allows an individual to aim high and be motivated. I would recommend people to start out in this city and then let the path unfold.

Public transportation is the only aspect that prevents LA to become like any other big city. A more well-connected network would reduce the time spent on the road and allow for more efficiency as a city.
