Today we’d like to introduce you to Aja Campbell.
Aja, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When it came to business, I thought dentistry was for me and cooking was just a hobby. I had a moment one night and broke down crying because I knew something wasn’t right on my career choice. I wanted to have the joy of doing something I love and Having peace while doing it and If I got Paid for it that was always a plus.
I started out cooking out the house just for friends and family, working different jobs sometimes 2-3 at a time. I was blessed to get a call one day and got offered to work on a movie set and do the catering from there I’ve done about eight movie sets, about six weddings and over 100 birthdays.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was never a smooth road, in life we go through different things and I take those as lessons for my journey and look at the positive even when it got down to dating someone you guys break up and they hit below the belt to break your spirit, or losing a job because they felt like you were competition because you started your own business or even just having your friends and some family saying you will never make it. I’ve lost an apartment, I’ve gotten injured which caused me to be In a house for a whole year. These things can be so discouraging but prayer and Faith was the ultimate thing for me.
Ace of Spades Catering – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Well after a long journey, I have started a Food Truck called “Ace of Spades Catering”. I am the Head Chef and Owner and I am Accompanied by my Sous Chef Rashaad (who is amazing and helped so much) and Rochelle who is amazing with the customers, she is the first face they see with a smile and the last face they see with a smile and nothing but a great energy shown. We are known for our alcohol-infused foods as well as our Famous Bread Puddings.
The thing That I’m most proud of is the customer service I give of course people want to hear the food is what you are proud of which I am but I pride myself on Quality, Taste, Presentation and Customer Service.
The fact that I can have customers from years back remember the taste of the food but then remember how I took care of them and Catered to their needs.
What sets us apart is most people on food trucks always have the same menu. Our menu changes every three months and goes with the seasons.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Receiving my food truck was probably the best moment of my life. The day of Grand opening me thinking I’ll be having maybe 30-40 people at Grand Opening ended up having over 140 people with a line wrapped around the corner and seeing everyone love my food.
