Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Lennox.
Hi Aimee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am the founder of TYSM. I make edible art in the form of grazing boards and tables using cheese from near and far while highlighting California’s seasonal produce.
I am a first-generation Filipino-American, born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I am a wife and a mother to a sprouting six year old who happens to love “stinky cheese”, also known as blue cheese, as much as I do!
Like so many others across the world, I was laid off due to the pandemic. This gave me the push I needed to switch from my career in the fashion industry to launching my own business. It had been a craft I was doing privately for my friends and family for the past decade and being able to extend it into a business had always been a dream of mine. The thought of creating something special to bring a little magic during a time of darkness and uncertainty made so much sense. Alas, TYSM was born and is thriving! I am thankful for the community I’ve met and the knowledge I’ve gained to keep each work of art exciting and delicious.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Finding a balance between motherhood and building a business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Every board I create is a new canvas, making each of them unique. I have a heavy focus on the delicate details of placement and cuts of fruit. My inspiration is pulled from my weekly farmer’s market visits, where I source all of my produce. Using what’s in season drives my vision! Winter provided a variety of citrus and now we are into stone fruits with cherries, peaches and nectarines! But my favorite part of my business is discovering different types of cheese domestically and internationally. There is so much to learn about each creamery, how the cheese is made, flavor profiles and pairings. It’s been a pleasure finding cheeses I love and extending that to my clients.
What does success mean to you?
Returning clients are everything! Or when I read a review that says, “Taste as good as it looks!”, I know I’ve done my job.
