Meet Aimee Galicia Torres of Osborne Head & Neck Institute

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Galicia Torres.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.|
I graduated film school at New York Film Academy in 2004. After that, I went and graduated Cinema Makeup School’s Master Make-up program in 2005 . I’ve worked as a cinematographer for nearly 15 years in the entertainment industry before transitioning into directing.

I currently direct, shoot, and edit a medical docuseries called “OHNI Case Files,” which is available on YouTube and Amazon Prime.

Based on the stories of Osborne Head and Neck Institute, OHNI Case Files depicts the experiences of a highly-specialized team of head and neck surgeons. Real-time footage includes complex surgery, compelling patient stories, international missions, and the human experience, shown through the eyes of this exceptional surgical team.

I have traveled all around the world filming this amazing surgical team and the patients they treat. It had been the absolute highlight of my career.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a series of ups and downs along the way getting to where I am today.  In my personal life, my husband and I have lived separately for most of our 10 year marriage due to our careers being in two different locations. I have worked countless freelance jobs with little to no pay. I have had friends and family tell me to quit and find a real job. I have faced the stigma of being a woman in the male dominated camera department. As a young filmmaker, I was taken advantage of by people looking to profit off of my dream. I have faced sexual assault and various unpleasing situations that almost made me quit. I was laid off from a company that I worked myself to the bone. Despite all, I never compromised any of my morals or integrity. I worked my butt off to get to where I am today.

It took a lot of endurance, confidence, and the will to move forward despite all the hurdles I had to face.

Osborne Head & Neck Institute – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I currently work for Osborne Head & Neck Institute, an ear, nose, and throat surgical practice that specializes in head and neck surgery. We currently also have a nonprofit called the “Osborne Head and Neck Foundation,” where we have yearly international medical missions, a high school medical scholars program, educational workshops, free surgery, and so much more. I am the director of cinema, and I run our media department. I am very proud to work for an amazing company that is doing life-changing work on a daily basis.

It is highly unusual for a medical practice to be producing in-house their own TV show.  However this is not an unusual thing for OHNI, we are constantly doing things that are not in the norm. They are taking on cases that other doctors have turned away. Everyone on the team is extremely passionate and loves what they do. It is nonstop at OHNI, we are doing things that are not being done elsewhere. The team at OHNI go above and beyond to provide the best possible patient care.

In a world where there are so much horrible things on the news and in the media, it’s great to be a part of a team that is making a difference in this world.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There are so many moments in my career that I look back most fondly on. The first moment was is when I got the job at the Osborne Head & Neck Institute. The second moment was, when I heard that one of my films brought a patient to us. It brought this patient hope and comfort during a difficult time in her life. Then after that, there were more patients, more people that came. It meant the absolute world to me that these people were coming to us to get the help they needed. Being able to make a difference in the medium of film, was always a dream of mine.

Another thing I am also most fond about is our yearly medical missions with the Osborne Head and Neck Foundation. We travel to third world countries and where there are no ear, nose, and throat specialists. For 10 days, we provide free medical care and free surgery to people in need. We have been to Ethiopia, Belize, and India. I remember my first medical mission to Belize was absolutely life changing. We are so blessed and lucky to live in a country where we have clean drinking water and options for medical care.

On March 9th, we will be going to Peru. If you would like to donate to our upcoming medical mission trip, please donate here.
