Meet Aileen Saucedo of Zeal Pressed Juicery in Bakersfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aileen Saucedo.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Aileen. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I began juicing in 2013 after struggling for a long time of eczema, asthma, and allergies. My two daughters and I were constantly in urgent care. I was prescribed medication for eczema, and it wouldn’t go away, so I decided to try and heal from within in a more holistic way. I went on a 21-day juice fast and lost 15lbs, my skin cleared up, and I had so much energy. A year after juicing for myself and my daughters, we have not been in urgent care and only see our doctor for our annual check-ups. My oldest daughter is no longer on daily medication to control her asthma, and we are healthy and thriving! Soon after friends and family would ask to buy my juice and that’s how Zeal began. It has grown organically over that last four years solely by word of mouth. Today our raw cold-pressed juices can be found in 2 locations, at Modern Grub, a meal-prep company and inside The Padre Hotel cafe and can be ordered as a cocktail called Downtown Cooler at their bar. We currently deliver to home and office and are building out our very own storefront in Downtown Bakersfield.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all, making juice is no cakewalk and is very labor-intensive, so there have been so many times where we have juiced until 1 am to be able to fill orders. Also, true raw cold-pressed juice is highly regulated because it is not HPP (pasteurized) like many cheap juices found on the shelves, so it has not been easy to legitimately press, bottle and sell our product. Pasteurization heats the juice and kills bacteria and with it the nutrient density. Pasteurization is also a way to preserve the juice and extend its shelf life, and we are not about that life.

Zeal Pressed Juicery – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We pride ourselves in being the first to provide Bakersfield with the most nourishing juice on the go to help people rise and grind with Zeal. We specialize in helping people reboot and rev up their metabolism with our signature three days Master Cleanse, which consists of 6 juices a day made of 100% vegetable and fruit juice with no added sugar, water or preservatives. Every juice contains 3-5lbs of produce in each 17oz bottle. Our focus is simple, to help people #healwithzeal we promise to never cut corners at the expense of your health. Our own families live and thrive on the same juice we serve.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
To be honest, the proudest moment has to be when my daughters said they couldn’t wait to be able to work at Zeal. After all, this dream was birthed from a desire to be able to provide for my children and have something they can also be excited about building together.
