Today we’d like to introduce you to Adryon de León.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born and raised in Ojai, a member of one of the first interracial families in town. My siblings and I were into the local art, music, and theater scene, participating in just about everything we could get into.
In 1999, I moved to OC and joined a non-profit educational performing arts group called the Young Americans wherein I met several dear friends who would shape my early music career. Long Beach became kind of a hub for my crew when we finished our tenure with the non-profit; we began to jam, create music, gig wherever we could.
In 2013, Dan Hastie of Orgone found a YouTube video of me performing with a band comprised of the aforementioned friends and reached out to me, offering me a lead vocalist position with the band. Two weeks later, sight unseen and having learned only seven of their songs, I flew to Indiana to meet them on a tour already in progress. In my time and multiple tours with Orgone, I’ve contributed writing and vocals to four or five albums and several other recordings, connected with other amazing musicians in the scene, and have seen and played some pretty incredible places around the world.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I can’t really pinpoint what I do exactly, but if I had to choose… I create soul music. Music that I hope fills people up makes them feel warm, makes them dance, and at times makes them think.
My wish for anyone who listens to what I write or perform is that they feel their time was well-spent and perhaps for a short time, we improved their quality of life.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
This question is especially pertinent right now, as all of my musician friends have experienced loss of work during the COVID-19 pandemic. In normal times, I would advise artists to expand their network and areas of expertise in order to diversify their offerings. Now, more than ever, I’m doubling down on that. The time has come to acquire new skills and reach out to the community – not only to network and create, but to lean on, and to support.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My main project is with the LA-based soul band, Orgone. We’re on all the socials as @orgonemusic, or orgonespace.com and can be streamed and purchased on all the traditional platforms.
