Today we’d like to introduce you to Addie Dobson.
Addie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I founded Farish Productions in 2016. My company was named after my great great aunt, Addie “Farish,” who was a partner in a stock broking firm as well as the first female bank examiner in Alabama. I wanted to implement her legacy and tenacious attitude into my video production company. Even though I love freelancing, I had a dream of producing amazing and thought-provoking content, so I took a chance and invested in myself.
In the beginning, we received wedding clients and then expanded to real estate agencies, doctor’s offices, and live events. In 2018, we made a video for the Alternative Baseball League who celebrate a game of judge-free baseball with people who are on the spectrum. When Taylor Duncan reached out to us, we had to embrace his mission and document his journey as the founder. Once we completed the project, the Alternative Baseball League was featured on ESPN and The Today Show.
We produced our first short film ‘EMILY’ that is currently in the festival circuit. Also, we are collaborating with VidaCher to design our pitch decks for ‘EMILY’ as a series. ‘EMILY’ is about a young woman who gets more than she bargained for when she accepts the help from a stranger, Spencer. With hesitation, Emily goes home with him only to be the center of his dog hunt.
Currently, we are in preproduction of another short film “Uphill” starring Dave Leos. We are in post-production editing runway content from LA Fashion Week. Needless to say, we like to stay busy whether it’s personal, corporate, or feature film production.
Considering Farish Productions is based off a legacy, we love to collaborate with our clients to produce their legacy.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the best way to think of struggle is that it is a common and an educational moment. In the beginning, the hardest struggle is finding client’s, harnessing relationships, and marketing yourself on a low budget. You have to have persistence and passion to push yourself outside of your comfort zone constantly. I, consistently, challenged myself by pitching my companies mission, networking with local businesses, and booking appointments weekly.
Once I established clientele, I had to harness those relationships because unfortunately, some businesses do not trust video production due to negative experiences. Some of the most common issues were poor quality, no deliverables being met, and complete disregard for the client’s vision. At Farish Productions, we want our clients to know that it is not just a transaction, it’s an investment.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Farish Productions – what should we know?
Farish Productions is a video production company that enjoys creating content for entrepreneurs within the community. We have created commercial videos and patient testimonials for doctors offices. We have showcased thriving neighborhoods and decadent houses for real estate agents. We love capturing private events to assist in promoting sponsors and gaining future investors. Also, we enjoy collaborating and producing feature content. All in all, I would say that we thrive in all aspects of video production as we are always searching for new and creative content.
I am the proudest of the work we did with Taylor Duncan and The Alternative Baseball League. I can remember brainstorming our next project and then getting a message from Taylor asking for help to spread the message of his league. When I heard his story, I was blown away by his confidence, professionalism, and passion for baseball that I couldn’t say no. We are proud to have worked alongside Taylor and the league to spread his message across the nation.
Farish Production is an approachable and affordable video production company who creates a timeless legacy for your company. Once we establish our client’s goals, we implement that goal into a video marketing strategy and educate the client in marketing patterns. We want to prepare our client’s so they can continuously market themselves after we deliver our project.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Resiliency. June 19, 2003, was the first day of my adult life. My two sisters and grandparents were in a tragic plane crash in Scottsboro, AL. Thankfully, my sisters survived while unfortunately, my grandparents died upon impact. I felt a light dim inside me which led me to fight for my dreams and happiness. Also, I think watching my sisters survive a tragedy with a positive outlook guided me to always look forward even in the storm.
Resiliency has lead my company forward for the past three years and will embrace any challenge with excitement, determination, and flexibility to keep us competitive in our market. A challenge is only a solution waiting to be solved.
