Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Ullberg.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey to becoming a Reiki Master began early on in my childhood through general curiosity. I was interested in spirituality, but not really a specific religion. That led to reading about all things metaphysical and wanting to know more… to understand what this experience was all about. I was a very sensitive kid and as I grew up, I could actually feel that sensitivity physically in my arms. I didn’t know what I was sensing, but just that something was there. That propelled my curiosity to discover specifically what it might be, which led to books on energy, awareness and even more on spirituality.
I started diving into ideas of indigenous people all over the world and started to build a view of things that resonated with me. Along with that path of self-discovery, I received a Reiki and Acupuncture session. And in that session, with the needles in place, I felt euphoric! I could feel the energy swirling through my body. But soon after the session, the feeling wore off and by the next morning, it was totally gone. I wanted the feeling back, so I decided to do a little experiment. I sat in bed and mentally recreated where the needles were placed the day before and low and behold, the feeling came back! I was astonished. It was a first-hand experience to beginning to understand just how powerful we are and what we’re truly capable of as people.
This discovery was a springboard for me to go deeper into the energy world, after all, that’s what we’re made up of… energy. Over the next few years, I became a Reiki master and must say that it’s been truly life-changing. All along the journey, I began discovering places in my own life that hindered me from being my truest self. I saw perspectives that I was holding that were creating blocks in my life. Eventually, my passion became about the idea of perspective. I was able to see how certain perspectives in my life were energy blocks… physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. And the more I understood those perspectives, the more I understood how I could change them, or at least open up to the idea that there were more perspectives out there, so I didn’t need to hold on to mine so tight.
As these energy blocks were worked through, I felt lighter in so many ways. This became a huge part of my practice. My practice is very much like therapy. I really don’t feel people, in general, open up to others enough or share who we are. So it became very important to me to create an opportunity for people to share in a relaxed, judgment-free space. In my sessions, as the discussions take place with clients and perspectives get reframed, the energy within us naturally opens up. And to then follow with the direct Reiki energy work, the impact becomes that much more impactful.
Has it been a smooth road?
I believe I’m smoothing my bumpy roads. The self-discovery continues and I believe it will always continue. To me, deeper and deeper blocks are being explored and in those times things can feel heavy. But over time, I’ve seen plenty of examples of getting through those heavy times and I can look at them at that moment and remind myself of just that… that I’ve gotten through them before and will continue to get through them now, even when it’s heavier then I could have ever imagined.
I’ve experienced that first with losing my father in 2011, then my mother in 2016. Both were 65 when they passed. The devastation was unimaginable and it continues to be something that I’m processing, but in that processing, I’ve also found the gift… the gift of living lighter and freer than ever before because through acknowledging death, we can truly appreciate life in every moment. We might not always understand what’s going on at that moment, but we can learn to shift our perspective and embrace the growth that is happening.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m a Reiki Master and I work with clients to re-empower themselves, reframe perspectives, and give tools for personal self-healing. I believe my ability to listen and discuss with clients different perspectives allows for stagnant energy to be released, which in turn allows the person to operate from a balanced state. I naturally am curious about people and what makes them who they are, so I believe that natural curiosity is a benefit to something like this.
And for those that are new to energy healing, Reiki is a form of energy healing or energy medicine that is channeled through a Reiki practitioner’s hands. Reiki helps restore the physical and subtle bodies of essentially anything and everything and it nourishes the energy bodies and provides opportunities to heal and cultivate increased spiritual awareness. It’s also an excellent complement to any healthcare and treatment program.
How do you, personally, define success? What’re your criteria, the markers you’re looking out for, etc?
I believe the definition of success can be different for everybody. For me, I went through a redefining period when I noticed that the western culture has a very materialistic view of what success is. That definition didn’t resonate with me. Along with that, I noticed that other cultures have different definitions. To some, survival is a success. That’s very different than defining success by a certain amount of money in your bank account, or what kind of job title you wear. So I knew that what I absorbed growing up wasn’t universal to everyone.
As I explored what I felt this human experience was all about, I discovered a definition of success that resonated with me that had to do with passion. We all have different passions and we’re inspired by different things. And that feeling of passion and inspiration is hard to capture with words. But we’re clearly pulled to certain things. It drives us to move mountains. And to me, it’s tied into what our soul is yearning for and it allows us to operate from a high energetic frequency.
I think it’s incredibly important – to our wellbeing – to listen to those passions and incorporate them somehow, some way. Even if it’s an hour a week… find a way to incorporation them. And if you’re doing that, that is success to me. Success is honoring what you’re passionate about and inspired by.
