Meet Adam Schmidt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Schmidt.

Adam, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am born and raised in Southern California and I come from a town called Murrieta. While growing up in Murrieta I was always into music. I was playing guitar for a long time in bands while I worked as a projectionist. While working this job I was able to go into the theaters after hours and watch movies and really study the music and surround sounds. This is where I fell in love with movie scores. I was completely blown away by how orchestras sounded in the theaters.

While playing guitar in bands I was in and out of studios quite often. I was always fascinated with engineering but didn’t really understand it. I knew this was something I wanted to pursue, so I started doing my own recordings just out of my house and started reading and studying Engineering

I then decided to go to school for Recording Engineering. I went to the Los Angeles Recording School where I learned techniques and basic training that one would learn at a school like this. I knew I wanted to get into film, and I was offered an internship straight out of school, interning for Han’s Zimmer at his studio. Here is where I learned everything that I know and apply to this day. I’m very grateful I had that experience with him and his team over at his facility. Eventually, I went freelance as a Score Mixer and Recording Engineer. That’s where I am now

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I was very overwhelmed when I first started interning for Han’s. The film is very complex and the sessions have a huge track count compared to songs and music. Working in surround for the first time was intimating, but I feel if you stick with something you can learn over time. You just have to be willing to put the effort in and stay focused

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a freelance Score Mixer and Recording Engineer. Basically, I am recording and enhancing film scores. This can vary anywhere from small string ensembles to 100-piece orchestras. Sometimes a film score might not even use live elements and could be all sample-based. Every score is different

I feel people hire me for my work ethic and the fact that I can handle large track count’s in my sessions and not get overwhelmed. Film scores can look quite overwhelming sometimes when you have so many elements in front of you

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would love to give a shout-out to all my clients and friends that I have had the pleasure of working with over the years
