Meet Adam Morales of Smokey Lips BBQ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Morales.

Hi Adam , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Worked in fine dining steakhouse. Loved to grill meats. Bought smokers and started smoking meats as a hobby. Enjoyed it so much and flavors were awesome that I wanted to try selling it. The steakhouse closed in 2021 and I had no choice but to sell BBQ as a financial means now to support my family. We have received great feedback and fed many celebrities. Our clients love the food and that’s what keeps us going. We have won awards with the smoked brisket. We want everyone to enjoy great food and we love creating different dishes using the smoked meats.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Everything after Covid, things changed. But the love of food has not. In the beginning we did well but then as restaurants started re opening , people wanted to go out again and not just do curbside pickup anymore. More and more people were opening their small business. Events got harder to get into. Food cost was rising. BBQ is a specialty food item and might not be welcomed by everyone’. We got creative and did brisket topped tamales, brisket pozole, and smoked brisket birria to name a few. We felt like we had to adapt to changes.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in wood fired meats and sides. Our smoked brisket has won awards and we intend to defend our titles for years to come. Our best seller is our brisket. We love doing BBQ festivals every year. We want the people to just try our food and review it yourself. We get such great feedback that we are proud of what we do. We put so much labor, love and passion into what we do and it shows when guests come back to compliment us. It’s a wonderful heartwarming feeling. We appreciate every opportunity to serve. It’s a mutual respect from pit master to guest. We will always give you our best! We love doing onsite catering, that has led us to so many wonderful places.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Yes , very huge risk to go into business for yourself. You do everything. You have to calculate if you have made the right choices for the direction for your business. Need to make sure you adapt and continue to be inventive. Numbers are a huge part and the level of stress is unreal. It’s a passion to cook and I still have that. It’s a family owned and ran business and that makes it worthwhile. I can be with my family and see my kids grow. I do this for them. They know we go out and “feed the people” and that not only puts a smile on my face but gives me strength when I work over 18 hours a day. Need to maintain your health too.
