Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam & Jonalyn Dusewicz.
Adam & Jonalyn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a former Division I college basketball player and high jumper at the University of Miami who is now a weekend warrior, I have had several nagging injuries throughout the years. Several years ago I discovered Whole Body Cryotherapy and its miraculous effects on the body. At the time it was an hour drive to get to treatment so it became prohibitive to go on a regular basis, but I always saw it as something that had tremendous value for athletic recovery, pain management, and overall health and well-being. I always left feeling like a brand new person. Fast-forward to last year, my wife and I were looking at purchasing a home, but for some reason what called to us more was the idea of opening up a Wellness Center where we could create a community of people that were interested in improving their health and well-being using cutting edge technology instead of prescriptions.
While the Whole Body Cryotherapy was my idea, Jonalyn was quick to include the Infrared Saunas, Compression, and Massage Therapy. While we knew that each of the modalities were effective and had value, we were not prepared for the overwhelming feedback we received from our members. There is nothing more fulfilling than hearing our members talk about how great they feel when they leave.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Haha, is anything really a smooth road? It might be easier to identify the few areas where there haven’t been struggles. I think one of the biggest struggles was probably just getting the doors open. Everything took longer than expected to the extent that it felt like the place would never open.
Finding good people is always a challenge and we feel really fortunate to have found a great group of people that really care about our members. We have received many compliments about our staff and we feel incredibly lucky to have them.
Lastly, as a new business, getting the word out to the community is always a challenge.
Beach Cities Cryo – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Beach Cities Cryo is a health & wellness center focused on athletic recovery, pain management, and maintaining an overall healthy lifestyle. Currently, we have four types of therapy: Whole Body Cryotherapy, Compression Therapy, Infrared Saunas, and Massage Therapy.
We are known for our Whole Body Cryotherapy (hence the name), but people genuinely fall in love with our other modalities as well once they try them.
We are most proud of the success stories that we continue to hear from people of all walks of life. We have heard tremendous feedback from healthy people who just want to feel good, people who do CrossFit and are tired of being sore all the time, athletes who want to perform better, or people who are recovering from brutal injuries.
Our members tend to say what sets us apart from others is the inviting atmosphere and our people (both the staff as well as the other members). We have been told that the experience at our facility is something that people look forward to throughout their day.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We define success as an environment where everyone wins. We want our clients, our staff, ourselves, and anyone who comes in contact with our business to have a great experience. Our tagline is “Leave feeling better than when you arrived,” and we constantly strive for that.
One criterion or marker would be to build the business to a point where we could open additional locations and expand our impact on the community.
