Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbey Scott.
Hi Abbey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m born and raised in Los Angeles. I grew up in a musical family as my dad Norman (Saleet) is an acclaimed songwriter. He has written songs for Air Supply, “Here I Am”, Selena “Where Did the Feeling Go?” and for many others. I always had a love and passion for music but did not get over my shyness and fear of performing in front of others until a later age. In College, I took Theatre, Music courses but it was a Speech Class that helped me overcome my fear. From that point on, I focused on writing, recording, performing live and went on to record hundreds of songs in my home studio with my dad. I have multiple albums, singles, and EPs that I have released as an Independent Artist. I have performed at the iHeart Radio stage in Los Angeles, and I have gained a serious following on live-streaming applications such as LiveMe, MeetMe, and TikTok. I am currently working on all-new music and releasing a new single, “Neon Butterflies” on August 28th!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road pursuing a career in the Music Industry. From a young age, my dad warned me that I was choosing a very difficult career and tried to talk me out of it many times. He knew from experience how difficult the road ahead could be even if you had serious talent. The heart wants what the heart wants so I continued pursuing music and focusing on becoming the best singer and songwriter I could be. I never turned down an opportunity that could help benefit my career. I remember being at a red carpet event in Hollywood when I was just starting out, and an internet outlet needed a reporter to do an interview with Quentin Tarantino’s father. He asked my friend who was an Actress, and she stated that she was the one supposed to be interviewed, not the one doing the interviews. I jumped up at the opportunity and said I would do the interview and even acted like I’ve done many interviews before (No Experience hosting or reporting at all). What’s the saying? Fake it til you make it! And that’s exactly what I did. I went on to host and report at many movie premieres and red carpets. I even went on to be the last person to interview Brittany Murphy before her untimely death. I’ve been told to wear one hat and focus on things, but I’m a strong believer that it’s important to not turn down opportunities that can help benefit your career. I think in today’s world, it’s much more common for people to be multi-talented, and I’m excited to see the industry involve in that way. Now we just need fair pay for songwriters, writers, and Actors. I think maybe the songwriters will be the next to go on strike!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Independent Music Artist/Songwriter! I am most known for my music as I’ve released various Albums, Singles, and EPs. I have also done both Acting and Hosting. I had a small part of the CBS Soap Opera “Young and the Restless” for many years, and I have been an Entertainment Reporter covering Movie Premieres, Red Carpet Events, Award Shows, etc. There isn’t one particular thing I am most proud of as being in the Entertainment Business is beyond difficult. I think continuing to write and record music and being able to make a living doing what I love is what I’m most proud of. I guess what sets me aside from others is that I can do it all, and I definitely have. From Music to Acting to Hosting, I’m born to entertain, and entertain I will!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think my best quality and characteristic that has been important to my success is being humble, outgoing, a trendsetter, and having blind ambition. I’ve always followed my heart and done what I feel is best for me and my career, even when other’s disagreed. I also turned down opportunities that I felt were not aligned with my morals and who I am. It’s important to never forget who you are and to always do what you feel is right because it is your life and no one else’s. This mentality has gotten me where I am today!
