Today we’d like to introduce you to Aathira Rajeev.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started out in a rural, small part of India. My family later moved to Dubai where I spent most of my life. My parents we very protective of me and looked out for me by helping me attain a bachelors in Interior Design. My heart was, however, in dance and the arts. I continued to dance in my university and got promoted to dance club president, all the while without my knowing. I got selected in one of Bollywood’s biggest reality dance shows. I told them, and they were happy yet cautious, barely allowing me to rehearse.
I proceeded to tell them im studying for exams (my finals were in progress) and stay at the studio with my duet partner rehearsing through the night and going straight to college and back. A car accident, numerous hours and a bucketload of lies later, I won the competition. Ive never seen them so proud! I now live in LA, another feat I thought impossible for a girl from my part of India, and I dance for a living.
Has it been a smooth road?
Sending me to America was the scariest thing my parents did, and I can totally understand why convincing them to was my hardest struggle. In between, there were so many phases of my parents trying to convince me otherwise. I remember one time when my mom and dad tried to get me to be a pilot and found a university, bought my books, looked at flight tickets and accommodation and everything in a span of a week. And I completely understood why, again looking out for me to make sure I had a financially stable journey, but did that shake my hopes to live the life of an artist? Not in the slightest
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I dance a set of interesting styles and choreograph using all of them. Together. I am known among my associates for combining Bollywood and hip-hop with a touch of reggaeton.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! Los Angeles is the soul of the art world! And I say art because there are all kinds of artists here. I myself am a dancer who acts and models. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat for anyone whose blinded by mesmerizing, talented artists like I am.
