Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Twa.
Hi Zach, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started singing when I was 11 years old when I found out I could sing. My mom says I started dancing at the young age of two. Dance was my first discovery. I grew up in church my parents are pastors so after the service I was always the baby messing around with the mic singing & dancing my butt off after the service or messing with the drums. I played drums in my church as well later on. At 11, I was watching a lot of Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, and Justin Bieber. Michael Jackson was my biggest influence to date. When I was in elementary Justin Bieber was taking over the world & had dropped his movie “Never Say Never”. We went to go watch it in the movie theaters with my brothers and my mom and I saw how he got discovered off posting on YouTube. After that day, I knew exactly what I needed to do.
Instantly started posting YouTube videos at 12-13, posting singing covers and dancing videos on YouTube. Did YouTube for 5-6 years and got a little bit of popularity but nothing changed my life drastically. It was a very long grind. Wasn’t until 2020 my homies told me “Yo Zach you gotta get on tiktok bro” I heard this twice from my friends. I knew then I could take over tiktok because by the time tiktok came around I was already looking for my next move to blow up. Thankfully six months later, I hit 1 million followers!! It was the most unheard thing ever seen because I planned it and worked hard and made it happen. I started off on tiktok with a challenge I started “making songs out of my tiktok comments” & making songs for popular tiktok girls such as Charli Damelio, Addison Rae, etc and each video got 3 million views, 2 million views I was averaging this a video. I had so many series I switched to and created so I couldn’t fall off gaining 100,000 followers a day!! Singing covers, remixes, and skits with my family. Other popular sing or swim, collabing with lots of girl creators & more. By 2021, I was sitting at 1.5 million followers and now in 2023, I am at 2.3 million followers. I proved to my younger self that I wasn’t tripping or crazy and my friends were right but I’m sure even they didn’t think I’d get this big. Once I knew I was talented I went after it and chased my dreams. Tiktok had brought me things I would never imagined record deals, I’ve gotten TV show offers, huge brand deals, and played in celebrity basketball games.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
On the YouTube journey before TikTok, I was posting for six years not even getting good views. It was bad and I never got paid for one video but something told me to keep going.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a TikToker & singer. I specialize in R&B music mainly but also do hip hop, afro beats, and pop music. I’m mainly known for my tiktok videos having 2.3 million followers. Most proud of my music videos I released this year with mainstream artist “Toosii” his director directed my music video to my song too much. Played in my first celebrity basketball game last year in LA. I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished through my fame in social media.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My mom deserves a lot of credit for not being the parent that didn’t believe in me and was my number 1 fan since a 6-7 years old. From taking me to auditions, concerts, interviews, TV stations, radio stations, and shows for me and my brothers to perform. I gotta give a shoutout to my brothers Trey, Prince & Isaac, and sister Angie for always helping me in my videos and helping produce so many viral videos being in my singing covers, & skits. I gotta give it to my father for making me & giving me the green light when I started tiktok to keep going and keep making creative videos and always giving me ideas to this day what to do with my career, shows, & music. Last shoutout to my friend’s job for helping me with a lot of the very 1st million viewed videos I started, my friend Jamal for telling me to start TikTok, Alex, Brendon, and JT as well for telling me to start TikTok. Love all of you guys so much.
