Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvette Jones.
Hi Yvette, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always loved all things creative from an early age. Whether it be art, music, movies, or photography; I feel most at peace in a creative space. My love for photography began when I took a film photography class in college where I learned the progress of developing photos in a dark room. From here, I was constantly taking photos of everything around me. Ten years later, when moving to Los Angeles, I realized I could do what I love and make a living from it, so I picked up a camera again and started photographing everything from fashion to events, parties, graduations, friends, and anyone who would sit in front of my camera. After years of working with many different people and industries, I decided to become a freelance professional photographer and create my own business so here we are!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Anytime you go against the grain or start something new, I believe obstacles come with those decisions. So it has not been a consistently smooth road in transitioning to a freelance photographer for me, yet I am extremely grateful for all the lessons I’ve learned. Personally, the biggest “struggle” I’ve had to face is knowing and articulating my worth. Often times photographers are underpaid and overworked since there’s soo much that goes into a photoshoot. From the initial meeting to prepping of the shoot to the day of the shoot and the editing after, many people see only the end result. So it has taken years for me to understand every job is not for you and to not force it. You just have to keep going.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer who specializes in portraits in a few different industries. I do a lot of e-commerce and fashion photography with clothing brands large and small. I also photograph events anywhere from corporate to personal parties. What I’m most proud of is the relationships I’ve built with people and I believe that sets me apart from others. I’ve been lucky to obtain most of my clients through referrals. I ensure in each photoshoot that I make people feel at ease and comfortable when working with me. It makes for a fun set and better images. I enjoy clients who give me their vision on what they want as the final product and then making it come to life through photos.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I love the game of soccer/fútbol!
