Life & Work with Vanessa Vasquez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Vasquez.

Hi Vanessa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My mom influenced my love for nails. She would bring my sister and I to the salon where she worked and opened this world of beauty to us. I loved the atmosphere in the salon and how everyone always looked their best. Seeing my mom create these amazing acrylic nails really made me see the artistry in her work. I started doing nails at a young age, I was my first client. I loved how you could change the color of your nails to fit the mood you were in or to match your outfit, or just to try a color because it’s brand new. Whenever I got the chance, I would also polish my friend’s nails and loved how happy it made them with just a stroke of a brush. I loved the concept of being able to have amazing art on your hands, without a long-term commitment. While working on my bachelor’s, I took some time off to attend beauty school to become a nail artist and immediately knew this was the career for me. Since getting my license in 2019, my focus has been to create beautiful work so that my clients can express themselves with artwork and amazing manicures.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming a nail artist has had its ups and downs. I started my career in 2019 and sadly had to stop in 2020 because of the pandemic. This was a really difficult time, the nail salon where I was working had to close like other businesses, and I lost my way of building my clientele, along with losing some great clients. It was a tough time, there was a lot of uncertainty and I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue my career or to go back to a corporate job. During that time, I decided to hold of and took it as a chance to improve my skills and knowledge on nail services. I was able to learn and get certified in nail enhancement systems that promote healthy nails, along with learning new art styles. Once businesses began to open up, I decided it was time to create my own space to take clients and provide amazing services.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Nail Artist and I specialize in structured gel manicures using premium gel products. I love collaborating with my clients on their nail art and educating them on my services, products, and aftercare to keep their nails healthy and strong. I’m most proud of the results my clients have had with me, how I’m able to provide them with a service that makes them feel great and have them fall in love with their nails with each appointment. It’s a great feeling to know that my work brings joy to my clients and that my work is out in the world. I will always go above and beyond to create an amazing set of nails and will always be transparent in my abilities with my clients to give them the best possible experience.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is being in the salon for the first time and getting my first manicure with my mom. I loved how great my hands felt after the sugar scrub and how nice my hands looked.
