Today we’d like to introduce you to Tre Hall.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m an actor and hip-hop artist.
Honestly, I feel I found my passion for performing arts later in life.
I had always loved music, but more as a super fan; listening to almost any and everything. I didn’t start learning to make music until high school. I joined my high school’s band (marching, concert, and jazz) my freshman. Around the same time, I had finally started writing down freestyles and song ideas. Eventually, I put it all together and made my own music. It’s changed a lot over the years, but now I feel like I’m finally where I need to be as an artist. I found a sound that I feel like is very unique to me and I can’t wait to start showing more of that to the world. I already have a few songs out on most streaming platforms, but trying to finish my current project in the near future.
As an actor, my story is a little less fluid. I had no intentions of being an actor until my last year of high school. I had been on my high school’s improv comedy troupe and was in a couple of plays/musicals; but I wasn’t planning on making a career of it. I just thought acting was something fun to do; until I met an acting professor from Fordham University while briefly staying in New York. Basically, that professor made me realize that I NEEDED to be an actor, I just never realized it. After that, I went back home to Dallas, Tx (my hometown) and told my parents. It took some convincing but I eventually got their total support…not much they could really do at that point either way haha. I later auditioned and was accepted into USC’s BFA Acting program in 2012, where I really got my acting foundation. After graduating in 2016, I’ve worked as a Theatre/TV/Film/Voiceover actor for some major brands and networks (Netflix, Showtime, ABC, FOX, Amazon, and more).
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a rollercoaster! I’ve had a lot of setbacks over the years. I remember when I told my mom I wanted to be an actor; she spent months trying to convince me out of it: trying to give me statistics of how expensive it would be, how likely I could fail, how much money I could make doing any other profession, etc. But when my mom finally saw me act in my first paid acting gig (that booked the summer before my senior year), she became my biggest supporter. Other than that:
I’ve struggled financially at times.
I’ve had to work up to three jobs simultaneously.
I’ve been away from my family for years at time.
I’ve been conned.
I’ve had everything seemingly go right, just for it to fall apart at the last second.
I’ve put my all into shows where the people just weren’t feeling me.
It’s been a lot of challenges, but that’s all part of it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Actor and Hip-Hop artist.
As a Hip-hop Artist: My top single is “In the Bag” (streaming on all major platforms)
I’ve performed at various venues in the greater LA area.
I’ve also been contracted, on a few occasions, as writer for Netflix productions to write rap lyrics for characters.
As an Actor: I would say I’m most known for my role in Criminal Minds. That’s the one I get recognized the most for. I’m proud of that one too because I got to play a villain with a good cause. The character and the episode had a lot of depth that really let me flex my acting skills with an amazing cast.
I’m pretty proud of all my acting roles. I’ve gotten to work with legendary people in the industry and I hope I can continue to work with more.
I think what sets me apart the most as both an actor and Hip-hop artist is my ability to adapt and change. Musically, it allowed me to fuse all of my favorite genres (rap, blues, funk) into MY sound.
As an actor, my versatility has given me the chance a wide variety of roles: stoners in comedies, just serial killers in procedurals, gang lords in crime dramas, and even scrappy bodega cashiers in action shows.
I’ve gotten to do a lot so far but there’s so much more I want to do.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think has played a part in everything. I was lucky to meet the professor that convinced me acting could be my career. I was lucky just to make it to my audition for USC. I’m lucky every time I walk into an audition or onstage for a show. I think luck is what provides us with opportunity to show our skills. So it’s all good luck whenever I get to do what I’m passionate about.
