Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Rodriguez
Hi Tony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a 25 year+ US Army veteran, a father, grandfather, husband, and your neighbor. I am running for California State Assembly District 44 in order to bring common sense solutions to California’s problems. As a people’s candidate, I will focus on parental rights, public safety, and small business in our district who feel they have been abandoned…left voiceless…by the majority of California Legislators who have forgotten who they work for. It is time to elect someone who is not a career politician – someone who has managed a budget and who believes that individuals and families should supersede the desires of lobbyists. I was a board member of the ‘self-determination’ program with people with special needs. I volunteer in my community to do clean-ups, I attend coffee with a cop to stay in touch with what is happening when it comes to public safety in my community. I became involved at speaking at school board meetings because I noticed that the schools in my area where changing and parents where not being told of the changes. I also realized the much of the leadership in California really do not care for the constituents. As I did my research I noticed that many of them have many special interested groups that donate to their campaign. This made me understand why they are beholden to those groups and not the people. I decided to run for State Assembly 44th District, which includes Burbank, Glendale, La Crescenta, Lake View Terrace, Montrose, North Hollywood, Shadow Hills, Sun Valley, Sunland, Toluca Lake, Tujunga, and Valley Village. As a Republican I was not expected to make thru the primary. However I did, with $1,700 raised for my campaign. My opponent raised over $500,000. My campaign is a grass roots campaign meeting people face to face. I believe we need to elect people that are willing to talk to each other regardless of party.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I am unknown, I am just your neighbor not a career politician. Difficult to get my message across basically because I do not have the powerful interest groups behind me. I also work full time so my campaigning is in the evenings on on the weekends.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work for a company, that helps place people to work. We support construction projects and our biggest clients repair and build US Naval ships.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To us common sense and just be kind. We do not need to fight each other or divide our families, especially over public servants.
