Life & Work with Tia Jarrett of North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Jarrett.

Hi Tia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up in Los Angeles, I was surrounded by creativity and entertainment from the very beginning. My mom put me in classes at Retter’s Academy of Dance when I was just 2 years old, and it was there I began to find my voice through movement. From the first plié to countless rehearsals through high school, I fell deeply in love with the art of performance. After graduating, I signed with Go 2 Talent Agency and began the exciting, ever-evolving journey of working as a professional dancer. Since then, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to connect with so many inspiring artists who have shaped me both on and off the stage. Performing across the country with companies like Cirque Du Soleil and Disney has been a dream come true, and every experience continues to fuel my passion and push me to grow as both an artist and a human.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Taking the road less traveled is never easy—it comes with its own set of challenges, doubts, and moments of uncertainty. There’s no clear blueprint for becoming the entertainer you’ve always dreamed of being, but every step has proven to be worth it. Dance has been my greatest teacher, offering lessons from a young age that I could never have learned elsewhere—discipline, resilience, passion, and the freedom of expression. I’m deeply grateful for the journey so far, and while the future can be intimidating in its unpredictability, there’s something incredibly thrilling about the endless possibilities that lie ahead.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Since I was young, I’ve trained in a wide range of styles—jazz, tap, ballet, modern, contemporary, hip hop, and other street styles—constantly striving to be as versatile as possible. Being able to connect with all genres and forms of music is something I hold close to my heart. It fuels my curiosity and ignites my drive to continually learn, grow, and refine my craft across new styles. As I’ve grown professionally in Los Angeles, my journey has naturally expanded beyond dance; I’ve had the chance to explore photography, teaching, choreography, and producing, all while being guided by incredible mentors I feel so lucky to learn from. Dance will always be my first love, but my goal is to continue building on all these creative outlets so I can contribute to as many areas of the artistic process as possible.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Los Angeles is and will always be my home. What I love most about this city is its incredible diversity. It is a true melting pot of cultures, perspectives, and stories that come together to create something vibrant and beautiful. Growing up here, I was constantly surrounded by love and creativity in all its forms, shaped by people from so many different backgrounds. That kind of exposure has deeply influenced who I am, both as a person and an artist, and it’s something I wouldn’t trade for the world. Of course, the 405 can be brutal—but even that feels like a small price to pay for the magic this city holds.
