Today we’d like to introduce you to Siddarth John.
Hi Siddarth, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in India but moved to the US to pursue my career in vfx.
My love for animation started when I was in school. I remember using my school books to doodle and make flipbook animations when I was a teenager. It was great when I realized that I could actually make a career out of following my passion. I was fortunate enough to be accepted into the Savannah College of Art and Design with a scholarship. I ended up moving to the US to do my M.F.A in Animation at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
After graduating, I started working as an animator in New York. I later on moved to LA and went onto working as a previsualization artist and animator for movies, TV shows, commercials and games. It’s been great to have had the opportunity to work on blockbuster movies like Pinocchio, Venom, Thor and Kong Skull Island.
I continue to work as a Senior Animator and Previsualisation artist here in LA.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy journey. I graduated right after the 2008 recession which made it very hard to find jobs to work on. It took me around 8 months to get my foot in the door. Being a freelance artist has had its challenges where it’s hard to get steady consistent work. The positive thing I’d like to take from that situation is that I got to work on varying types of projects with different scopes, teams and work environments. It has been a great learning and rewarding experience so far.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Senior Animator / Senior Previsualization Artist who’s worked on feature films, commercial spots, TV shows and games. Some of my clients include: Disney, Marvel, DC, Netflix, Transformers, Apple, Google, Samsung, Intel, Mc Donalds, Toyota, Facebook, Nintendo and Activision.
I’m proud to have had the opportunity to work on blockbuster movies like Pinocchio, Venom, Thor Ragnarok, Kong Skull Island, Pacific Rim, The Martian, Fantastic Four and Ghostbusters.
What helps me in this industry is the wealth of knowledge that I bring to the table, having worked with various award-winning projects and top-notch clients.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite memories was watching cartoons on TV when I was young. I remember being very excited when I figured out how to make flipbook animations when I was young.
